Just a quick question here. I'm new to the truck crowd, and every so often, might take an old logging road or the likes. My question is are the front tow points on my 2008 Ranger suitable to be pulled out of a mud pit, and other than a rear hitch, what alternatives are there for rear tow points. I've seen bolt-on hooks, and I can only assume the tow point on the bumper would not be strong enough.

Thanks!

oem tow points work ok for oem stucks.

for the rear a decent hook is fine...say from tsc.

Yes, but not as yank points... there are a couple of really amusing videos about what happens if you try to yank with those tow rings

I have a Ford Ranger 2002 4X4. I see the Tow hooks in the front. but I don't know where is look for the Tow points in the rear. I don't have a trailer Hitch package on it. I know you shouldn't hook to the bumper. I need to know before I stuck and I can't get to the front hooks.
I have a Recovery Strap but it says It is a Tow strap with loop ends 3" x 30' 10k Ibs Work limit 30k Ibs. break limit
or a 2"x 15' tow strap work limit 5k Ibs. a break limit 10k Ibs.
I have a Honda Civic that a Shackle 4 3/4 ton can't hook up to the tow points.

will a 4 3/4 ton Shackle be able to connect to it or will I need to get sometime smaller or go out
a trailer hitch package, what kind for my Ranger 2002 XLT 4X4.
or will I need to tow hooks attach them to my frame in the rear.
thanks.
This question about the Trailer Package is for my Ranger
but should I get a smaller Shackle or buy Tow hooks is for both my Honda and Ranger.

if you Don't about the Honda that is Ok.

There are tow points on every truck but you are going to have to use a bridle in order to spread the load onto both frame rails and chock up on the bridle when doing off center pulls ... But you can cause alot of damage when you cause a shock load causing the mini j-hooks or mini t-hook to rip out of the frame.. Just make sure that they are solid point and not all rusted out other wise your just asking for trouble.

For those of us that aren't ashamed to ask....what's a bridle?

heres my rear-end recovery point, sure its overkill, but darn safe/effective!

yeah, the strap broke, was dragging a crysler mini van down a road with 5" of snow, vehicle has less than 4" of ground clearance, finnally had enough resistance with all the snow getting stuffed under the van to cause the strap to break. glad i didnt have a chain, the strap harmlessly bounced off the windshield of the van.
