ok guys, I've been hangin out larking here since Jim Oaks started this place (and before on the other cub site) But this is my first 2wd build.
I'm getting out of mudding, and want to 2 tracks, and mild trails.
I was GIVEN a smashed 92 4.0 4x2. So, time to make a TINY budget prerunner.

this truck will never see streets again!

Can someone start with some ideas for lift. I'm wondering if stock xj springs would be better then ranger springs? if I need to go longer xj's to get stock (or a couple of inches lift. rear will be 4x4 blocks, maybe an add-a-left totaling 3.5"
just need to get the front up.
LOng term goal (5 yrs from now) new rad arms and beat beams.

thanks for any ideas :headbang:

Drop shackles would be better than blocks. An stock XJ springs won't be enough. You could get some spacers or washers under the coils, or check the for sale section. There are always lift springs for sale.

I've heard good things about junkyard chevy spring swaps. 1500 coils in the front, and chevy 64" swap in the rear.

i know most people only lift 2" in the front of alignment reasons, but I'm sure you're never wear out tires on trails. :icon_thumby: what ever you do for lift, keep the nose-high prerunner look! and for more room, hockey pucks are cheap. you could fit 33s easy, or 31s for jumping :headbang:

Dont do more than 2inches ever it will ride really bad if it isnt aligned correctly, hockey pucks will break down if you try to jump with them, in fact if you jump at all without well built I beams and radius arms you will break stuff

How will bad Camber affect your ride? Caster and Toe, well I could see that, but the result of excess lift is piss poor Camber.

hockey pucks will break down if you try to jump with them

How do you figure? :icon_confused:

don't forget, 98 and older trucks are beamed, the 1500 coils won't work. the 64" springs are rad though, best results are to bastardize the pack with leaves from different trucks.

i think he meant F-150 springs

I have driven and ridden in many vehicles that disprove this statment

I had forgotten you had an a-arm truck sorry lol

And i did mean chevy

for the rear I already have the blocks and add-a-leaf, but I also have extra ranger spring packs, and a set of older 1/2ton chevy springs.

I though with the xj springs being softer, it would make a bit better ride on rough terrain.

I guess I might have started this thread in the wrong area. I'm not usre how much "prerunnin" I'll do. It'll be mostly 2 tracking and dunes, but some of those 2 tracks are SUPER ROUGH.

Another question, I thought I remember 2wd springs are longer that 4x4, can anyone conform or deny this?

PS thanks for all the quick replies! dang I love this site!!
