so i was in walmart when i seen like 5 magazines that say "will off roading be banned in us". anyone else see this? i even seen it in a dirt bike mag. this is crazy there gonna close everything :bawling: what does everyone think about this?

doubt it. they would kill the motorsports industry. baja racing, motocross, atv... you name it. its just hype to get the market going again.

I don't see how it will happen.

idk there closing different places a lil bit at a time and trying to close more cuz of the environmentalists. same people who closed tellico..

it may not be fully erradicated, but if they give it a good run like hitler did on his vendetta the damage will be irreparable, he didn't succeed but did a hell of a lot of damage. in the eastern states public riding areas are already almost non existent (i site a quote from last month's peterson's 4 wheel magazine). and even here in utah 1 million acres of public land is lobbying to be closed to motor vehicles. because the land needs to be preserved
our enemies that are lobbying to close our land are spending all of the time and energy we spend enjoying our lives, they're spending that time and energy trying to close land....thats how they enjoy their lives

The BLM(Bureau of Land Management) is always coming up with L.U.R.'s(Land Use Resolutions), and Travel Management Plans. the best way to fight these are to get involved when they are doing their impact studies(its the only time you really have any say in the matter, and you bet the people that want the lands closed to motorized activities are there). There always seems to be a lot of complaining when they finally do issue their LUR's, but no one was there in the beginning. I have been to quite a few here where I live, and its tough to stand alone(I am notified of meetings, so I know when they are coming). get everyone you know to come with you. We, as a community of outdoorsmen, need to band together(and I mean stand together), to stop most of the closures. Its the only way guys. there are some that are gonna get closed no matter what is done or said(new housing developments, annexations, sale to private owners, etc), but the public lands need our support to keep them open to everyone(including us). get involved and you'll see a difference in how things are being handled now.

yea we need to do something and put a stop to this before we have no place to go. even people that hunt and fish wont be able to use public land.

Different worlds, here we have no public land and I couldn't see how in the heck they could keep me from tearing it up a little if I want on private property with permission. Public vs private wasn't mentioned earlier.

They do have a semi-valid point on wanting to protect the land though, there are a lot of stupid people out there that really enjoy tearing it up by not wheeling responsibly and ruin it for others. Me personally, I putt along, enjoy the scenery and take the easy route rather than ripping thru there at WOT throwing mud, rocks and small woodland creatures around as I bounce off of trees.

I could take you to a place you can still see the stage coach ruts from stage coach line that ran between two towns in the 1800's not far from here. They are still in the soft black iowa dirt on a hillside coming out of a ditch, it is foolish to think that ruts in a offroad park will instantly heal themselves any better if not used responsibly.

i like to putt along too u wont see me WTFO thu trails but if i get spinnin then im goin for it lol. no point in going out to tear something up or ruin it for someone else, whats the fun in that.

I know that up here you now need liability insurance to ride any vehicle (aka dirtbike, ATV, trail rig) on crown land which makes it a bit more of a pain as most off-road bikes have no registration or paper trail after a few years of ownership... and the trails are being blocked off more and more... but I can't see them banning wheeling everywhere.

Cheers
Dave

Glad I dont live down there in America, but I guess everywhere has land use issues. We are always at BLM and DNR meetings in our defense, ya cant stop closures if you dont get involved or it goes through under your nose because you didnt know about it or think the OTHER GUYS will take care of things for you.:icon_thumby:

yea your right we need big groups of people that are willing to work on trails and keep them maintained and not fall apart. look what happened to tellico no one fixed it thu the years and now its closed. the closing of tellico hurt my town bad. just look at this article from the paper. http://www.thecherokeescout.com/articles/2009/10/20/news/doc4ade11732f0f4994576184.txt

We are invovled big time. All the wheelin clubs do massive clean-ups all summer and have for years and the people who complain dont do a dam thing but burn gas on the way to their green whining meetings. Inform yourself and stay informed, get involved there is power in numbers.:icon_thumby:
