I'm trying to sketch out a basic install for my Ranger. I've fiddled with amps before, but never really put together a complete system and just want a second opinion. Trying to create a simple, affordable system that covers all the bases. To do so, I want to use a four channel amp mounted in the center of the back wall, and two sealed 8" boxes behind each seat. The wiring sketch is attached. I might not end up using this amp, but I want something similar to power everything. 100x4 at 4 ohms, and 150x4 at 2 ohms. Each of the rear channels would tie into an 8" SVC 4 ohm sub. Each front channel would get front and rear components for one side. If I did this, I'd get 75 watts to each component set at 2 ohms. Will this damage a speaker set that's listed as 4 ohms? Do all the numbers sound right?

you cant control ohms, if your amp is stable at 2 and 4 ohms which most are, and you hook it to a 2 ohms speaker it will run at 2 ohms, but your amp says 100x4 at 4 ohms, so you have 4 channels at 100 watts, if you give two channels to your subs, they will get 100 wats at 4ohms

and you can run the other 4 speakers with two channels and have them be in parrell, so they will be 50w to each speaker, at 2 ohms

side note iv never in 9 years of doing this tried to different ohms loads thur the same sub. idk what will happen.

to fix this run your speakers in series, it will give you a 4 ohm load, to both channels,

and your sub will have a 4 ohms load too and it will be gravy, but run speakers that far away in series will be a big pita.

I realize you can't 'control ohms'. The subwoofers would obviously be getting the rated 100 watts each.

Two 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel creates a 2 ohm load, and the amp appears to be rated at 150x4 at 2ohms. Are we on different pages here?

Did you mean through the same amp? If not, I haven't the slightest idea what you were trying to say here.

i think you have it pretty much covered.. look for an amp that is 2ohm/4ohm stable.. now you have 4 channels to play with.. use one channel to run both your 8inch subs 2ohm considering your getting 2 4ohm subs.. me personally i would run it 3 channel. use 2 channels of the amp bridged for the subs at 2ohm an run a channel for the front speakers an a channel for the rear speakers.

i would just run one component set off the front channels. each side would get 100w. then put a sub on each of the rear channels. the jbl gto84 would be a great match.

Interesting - so you wouldn't use rear speakers at all? Thanks for the links.

I also noticed that you can buy 2 ohm subs. Would it be worth it to get the extra power through them? My assumption is that 100 watts in an 8" would be more than enough, but this is why I'm here asking for feedback.

in a ranger, no i wouldnt. one set of components gettting 100w a side will be pretty loud. so save the money on the second comp set and invest it in a better set of comps for the front.

Ok. I already got the Audiobahn component set on eBay that I was asking about the other day. I realize they may not end up being perfect, but for $25 out of pocket it was worth the risk. If they don't work out, I'll just resell them. Should be able to get my money back.

Here's my budget without the extra component set (not including wiring):

Amp $230 (Alpine MRP-F600 or Lanzar OPTI200x4)
Boxes $50 (I'll make them by hand)
Subs $120 (Polk dB840 or JBL GTO804)
Radio $85 (Clarion DXZ385USB)
Total $485. Not too bad. I'll still have to get rid of a few other things floating around in the garage to balance it out, but I should be able to do it without much out of pocket.

well be carefull when setting the gains on your amp for those components. they only take 80w a side and i doubt they can take the extra 20w off that alpine.

factor in about another $50 for amp wiring, rca's and speaker wire. remember to search ebay for lower prices.

Will do. Thanks again.
