Second time around here for me. Was a follower many years ago when I had several Rangers, just cannot log in with my old account anymore. I decided to come back online for several reasons; I'm thinking of getting into another Ranger and this site was always the best for information and fellowship.
I already have a '23 Maverick on order, but as I was informed, the dealership took in double the number of orders as those Ford later told them they would receive, so the thought of actually getting it built, or in anything resembling a timely fashion, is already less then 50/50. I could have waited, but the added gamble of having no assurance my ordered vehicle will get built has me thinking of the next best alternative, and something I considered years ago when the Ranger returned in '19.
My thoughts are to cancel that and see about spending a little more and getting another Ranger -hoping I may still be able to special order this body style. With the 2.3L under the hood it should be every bit as enjoyable as my last one was with mods, but right out of the box.
My previous Rangers were as follows: first to last.
'99 regular cab XLT with the 3.0L flex-fuel engine, 5-spd, 2WD, 3.73s, bright red, with the sport package.
'01 Edge, 3.0L regular cab, vulcan motor, 5-spd, 2WD, bright red, 3.73s.
'01 XTL regular cab, Flareside. 2.5L with 5-spd.
'03 XLT Supercab, 4.0L with 4WD, 6-spd Auto., 4.10s, Sonic Blue!
I'd love to hear about anything to look out for on any used '19-up Rangers I may inspect, providing I can't order the current version/body style one. Anyone know what the current wait times are for special ordering a Ranger? ....can't be as bad as a Maverick.
My current thoughts are 4WD if I look used, unless I can find a really exceptional 2WD with the rear locker, after all I live outside of Buffalo, NY, some years we can get snow. If I go new I may likely consider 2WD and opt. for all that is necessary to order it with the FX2 pkg. For a bit more than just the cost of adding the locker to the STX pkg you also get some other features which enhance the appearance and some functionality.
