Ford Techs, I have a question on my 06 Escape

Does it need to have power while the vehicle is off? The only difference I saw when I pulled the fuse was the security light wasn't flashing.

If you have a .22 amp draw after everything goes to sleep and the cluster only drops it .08A, I really doubt that is your biggest problem. You are still looking at almost a .1 amp draw that is unaccounted for.

That's true, I am getting ahead of myself. I need to find where the other .13 is going. Where is the PATS module located? I see fuse #5 has "Powertrain Control Module (PCMrelay), Fuel pump relay, Main fanrelay, High/Low speed fan relay 2, PATS module", but I see no GEM listed. Am I to assume there is no GEM?

The GEM is the SJB (Smart Junction Box), which is all part of your fuse box.

OK, a lot of progress was made today. I pulled every fuse and relay out and found some things out. If either fuse #6 (High Mount Stop Lamp, Stop Lamps, PCM, ABS Systems, Speed Control, Brake On-Off Switch) or fuse #17 (Low Beams) are plugged in, I get a .20A pull. If I plug both of them in (with no other fuses plugged in) I get no additional pull. I also pulled all of the bulbs, in hopes something there was somehow causing a pull; no change though.

For some damn reason though when everything is plugged in and I pull fuse #7, it drops down to .13A - which really makes me scratch the noggin. :icon_confused:

So do those two (or three) circuits have something in common I'm not seeing.... besides the obvious fact they all run lamps of some sort?

And hey guys, I REALLY appreciate the input. This vehicle is my Wife and 3 Kids' mode of transportation, so it's really important for me to get the thing fixed.

Well, all the lighting is controlled by the GEM...

I pulled the SJB, and took it apart. It is not exactly serviceable. However, I did check what I could, and everything tested within value. The only thing I found odd, was the large harness that goes on the back side of the SJB was not fully engaged. When I say this, I mean the mechanical lever on the harness that locks it in. This lock was sitting at about half way engaged. I put it all back together and did the test again, I got a reading of .01 amps. I tested it twice for good measure, and got the same results.

:icon_confused::icon_confused::icon_confused:

I'm happy it's working as it should, but still dumbfounded as to what caused it.

Loose connections at a module can cause all sorts of stupid stuff.
