My 06 Escape has a brake pedal "creak". It doesn't do it 100% of the time, but it's a little more frequent when the temp is hotter outside. My Wife says the brakes don't feel as good as they used to, although they feel fine to me.... but I drive a Fox Body Mustang, so dragging a stick out the window seems like good brakes to me.

In my research, it seems like a fairly common issue in newer Ford's, especially the 04+ F150's. However, I've seen a grand total of one person say they resolved the issue, and they achieved success by replacing everything; booster, master cylinder, and even the brake pedal assembly. Have any of you had customer complaints about this, and what was the issue?

Seeing as how this is the main grocery getter, I'd like to try and diagnose and fix it so everyone is safe. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed!

Can't say i've seen this issue?

I have seen quite a few different Fords develop what the customer describes as a "creak" or "squeak" when hitting the brakes or making slow turns that were caused by the firewall seal getting dry. The fix for that is silicone lubricant to the shaft.

If it has rear drums I have also seen several instances of the shoes making noise as they move over the landings on the backing plates. This is also usually a creaking type noise. The fix for that would be to remove the shoes and apply high-temp nickle anti-sieze. Do NOT use CRC disc brake quite in that spot. I had one (an Escape) come in saying they had an awful noise when pushing the brakes right after another shop did the rear shoes. The moron put that stuff on the flats not knowing what it turns into when it dries.

If she thinks the brakes don't feel quite as good as they used to I would pull the drums off and check everything. Make sure they are adjusted correctly too. The auto adjusters are pretty good at getting full of dust and locking up.

I will try and adjust the rear brakes. They are drums, and they squeak when the pedal is released, so I think they are out of adjustment. I didn't really put two and two together though, and I suppose that could be why it creaks. I royally suck at drum brakes though. Hopefully I can get it right.

2006 Escape should have disc brakes in rear?

Most rear drum brakes are adjusted by using the E-brake just put it on and off several time then check pedal travel, should start tightening up.
With automatics people just don't use the E-brake as much as they should.

Yes, put some lube on the brake pedal bushing and brake rod at the power booster end.

Escapes are still drum rear brakes.

Gen 1 Escapes had standard drum, optional disc rear with about a 50/50 production split.

Gen 2 Escapes had standard drum, optional disc rear (per the parts catalog) but I have never seen one with rear disc.

Gen 3 Escapes, to the best of my knowledge are all rear disc.

My Brother's 05 Escape Limited has rear disc. It also has a larger front disc. My 15 inch wheels wouldn't even go on his, they ran into the caliper.
