The United Auto Workers union has informed workers at the Avon Lake Ford plant that it plans to move a major project slated for 2023 from Northeast Ohio to its plant in Mexico. The letter, dated Friday, March 12, stated that Ford is going back on its agreement to build a "next-generation vehicle" at the Avon Lake plant in 2023.

I hate seeing american jobs being sent out to other countries.

Probably a more accurate way to say it would be: The United Auto Workers union has chased another manufacturing facility to Mexico. I hate to see it,too.
Please edit your post to capitalize American.

I know the feeling. I worked at Campbell Hausfeld for a while and all the jobs were sent where else, China. I'm still working at the same building with a different company now.

Its not always about the cost of skilled labor now-a-days
Infrastructure costs in replacing equipment in older plants
Upgrading buildings at the plant
Land value and taxes
Shipping materials to the plant to build parts or vehicles

And price point for finished product , that's all us, we want good valve when we buy a new vehicle, so it ultimately comes down to US, when any vehicle maker has to limit cost of parts or assembly to compete in an open market

So not a "union" issue every time

Yay, they move a plant across the border to lower costs and vehicle prices will go up $3k next like the have every other year...

Yes, they have to pay Import Tax now, so direct Federal Government payment instead of state/federal income tax from workers
No split, lol

I worked for a company for 10 years previously that moved part of the company operations to other countries just to get the advantage of the dollar exchange value. All things being equal, they made millions just because of the exchange rate. And they made a deal with the locality where they moved they would hire so many people. So they took the processes we had automated over here, and had a bunch of people (this was in India) sitting there all day with stopwatches timing the process instead of being automatic. Of course they started having quality problems because of that. But it was the almighty dollar that was the bottom line.

The share holders demand performance, and that trickles down through the ranks. They will do anything to perform for the shareholders.

Yes, people, all people, are motivated by greed

Which is why people like Mother Teresa stand out, or any one that donates time or money without expected "pay back", but there is "pay back" in the form of feeling good, so.............that is a form of greed, lol, normally achieved with pharmaceuticals for most :)

Humans would have died out long ago if it wasn't this way, "must feed my family FIRST", greed plain and simple

This is why Capitalism works, its based on "life", taller plants shade the shorter plants, faster growing plants shade the slower growing plants, and eat up nutrients in the soil faster
Socialism partially works, but eventually "you run out of other people's money"
Communism doesn't work at all, its anti-nature

Its "nature" in general, not just human nature, to be greedy, because "it works", time tested since life first started on Earth

But greed can get you into trouble, Ponzie schemes and other investment scams, most "cons" are based on the Victim's Greed or they wouldn't work, "something for nothing"

IDK, I tend to believe there's a difference between "greed" and "that which must be done to survive and prosper". The difference may be small, but there is a difference.

Only in time scale. It makes me money now but hollows out the society on which I depend - short term advantage and a long term disadvantage.

This is where we've been for a long time - we're all forced to make choices to keep our heads above water but that destroy us in the long term.

Know how this feels, we up here went thru that situation 1 1/2 years ago when GM closed the Oshawa plant, left the region here in a depressed high unemployment state. Thousand put out of work now collecting unemployment, but that only lasts one year.....

If we went back to the Barter System, we, as the consumer, determine what an item is worth.

I have two bear skins and need a table and the guy that makes tables needs a bear skin - we trade one table for one skin. But if the table guy already has a skin then my two skins are worthless to him and now i have to find something of value to the table guy, so i can get that table. So i ask the table guy if he needs a "goat in a box" - or something like that.
