Hey all,

So I was just getting my Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 where I liked it and after 384,000 the head gasket went so while I save for a new engine I picked up a cheap truck challenge 1989 Ford Ranger. The previous owner lifted it and was using it basically for muddling and joyriding in the hills around here. Still trying to get it passed smog but just an Evap leak I need to figure out. I’m just a home mechanic but being a plumber and Commercial repairman I feel like the skill set connects.

I have hated this truck but am starting to love it. Love the 80s feel and the simplicity of this 2.9 V6. The straight pipe is fun too!

Looking forward to learning and hearing more about your builds. One thing I’m really searching for is a decent repair manual would love any help.

Thanks,
Sam (Sportrally5)

Really nice looking truck!
Welcome to TRS.
Check out the "How to Tech" section at the top of every page. It has just about every thing you will need, and we are always a post away from giving advice.

Welcome, nice truck :)

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks guys.

Yes the How To is excellent on this site a lot more than just a forum here! I found out that the Chilton manual has about twice the info the regular Haynes does on this 89 which has helped a lot too. Found the Evap leak as well so I’m good to go for California. The ring around the sending unit on fuel tank just needed to be tightened!

Wow nice truck. Looks to be free of the rust that we get else where
