Looks like Chrysler is doing something about the small truck lineup.

And GM is rethinking the canning of the Canyon/Colorado.

Hope Ford does not drop the ball...I believe there is some money to be made in this segment if they price them right and put the right options in. they had a good market for compact pickups even in the late 60's/early 70's via the Ford Courier and kept that going almost until the Ranger came out in 83.

God, I hope Ford is now reconsidering their choice of killing off the Ranger. Looks like new competition is entering the compact truck market. Ford better be planing something good for the U.S. if they choose to keep the Ranger off the market. Now that I think about it, a redesign should make another killing in this market segment. But I guess Ford doesn't realize that. :bawling:

my guess is that Ford will pull a Taurus/500 move. we will get a new compact pickup under a new nameplate.

what is sad is that the move to naming the Taurus a 500 didn't do Ford all that well... in fact they brought back the Taurus nameplate.

That's what I'm thinking will happen. It'll be that fiasco all over again. I just want Ford to realize what they are doing before that happens. And not only that, Ford should keep the Ranger nameplate with a redesign and with the EcoBoost V6 or a small diesel motor, either motor would kick major ass with a six speed manual. And none of that uni-body/AWD crap either. I want a full frame with a separate body and part-time 4WD.

want in one hand, shit in the other.

The rumor that I heard from one of the salesmen the other day is that there has been talk of bringing the T-9 Global Ranger to the US in either late 2012 or 2013 MY.

The Ranger is gone....say goodbye and hello to something........ better...hopefully....................??

Hopefully with a diesel option (fingers crossed). I really think the sooner they announce a plan like this, the better.

I was talking to my friend in Australia the other day, and he said they are nice rigs. He moved there in like 2006-2007, and thought the Ranger had changed over here too. When I told him it was the same shit different pile from when he left, he was surprised.

probably will be a unibody as they are cheaper to make. I do foresee an ecoboost, but not a deisel. the liberal hippy f*cktards have prettymuch killed the deisel in the small truck passenger market.

The consumer has killed the small diesel, not the liberal f*cktards. The consumer didn't want it, didn't buy it, and made it impossible to make any money on them here, so as a business that is out to turn a profit, the car companies stopped making them. Now it is going to take a lot of convincing to get them to invest the capital to bring them back, because as it turns out, engine plants aren't cheap to build.

As we all know, the diesel engine has made great strides since it was last available in a Ranger. I would be interested if it pulled in some good mpg's. That is the most undesirable feature of my Ranger - gas mileage. I got 18.4 mpg out of my last tank, and I'm ecstatic about it..... I'd love to own a truck that got 22-25mpg or better.

My prediction is that the Ranger name will live but on a 2011 Ford Edge chassis.

Unibody wouldn't be the worst thing to happen to the ranger, really.

That is debatable.

Modern diesels are so gawdawlfully complicated I can't get too wound up about one.

Ecoboost FTW. :headbang:

The 2.0 or whatever it Ecoboost would be a barnburner in the current Ranger as it sits with no further investment. :icon_thumby:

That t9 may be a well equipped and capable truck but I sure as hell wouldn't ride around in something that fugly unless I was getting paid for it.

I think they should just keep the Ranger and make the new 3.7 v6 the only engine available in it. It gets better mileage than the current 2.3 and it makes more power than the 4.0

Since there would only be one engine mass production becomes easier and the product cost goes down.

Seems like a win in every aspect of the word.
