Why Ford is better than Chevy

I have nothing against Chevy's. I've had C/K pickups before and I think they're all good trucks. I will never own a Chrysler product in my lifetime, however. I honestly think the quality of Chrysler vehicles is significantly lower than that of Ford and Chevy. If you have to give a speech on why one's better than the other, I would go with Ford/Chevy>Dodge/Jeep/etc.

They can find good venders to put their stickers on though...

I had a '90 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo, if I could buy a new one today I would in a heartbeat. It was basically a restickered Eclipse.

I always make fun of Chevy's with me friends that like them. What it boils down to is I have a mental block against GM products. I'm not used to them. I get under the hood of a Ford, and for some reason it's a completely different ball game... I'm ready to tackle whatever it is.

But one thing I always tell myself is..... no matter how much I make fun of Chevy, they are still my second choice of brand.

not all chyslers are bad, slant 6s are a great motor! although ford did not need its ass saved by the goverment... id think a report on the build quality of older cars vs newer cars will be more suitable IMO.

the 318 is a dang tough motor, you have to keep an eye on a chrysler transmission, and the interiors were cheap for a while but our 96 Ram 1500 has 240,xxx miles and the only we have done is a water pump, about 100,xxx of those were HARD miles too.

On the flip side i have a 86 Chevy C30 with 140,xxx?miles on it on its 4th motor.

I had an escort with over 300,000 on it and it is still going (odometer borke at 298,000 about 1.5 years ago)
My DD is a 360,xxx mile Festiva (but it is mostly a Mazda)
Our Crown Vic has a conservatively estimated 500,000 with nothing major.

If you really want to do Ford Vs Chevy, I would talk about how the Crown Vic is the most commonly used Taxi and Police car(although the Caprice was prefered by a few over the Crown Vic) How the Fseries is the best selling vehicle ever made, How the Ranger is the choice truck for companies (WAS the choice truck). Talk about the Bailout, or you could mention the million mile 7.3Ls(but they were International). You could talk about how the Mustang GT 350 whips up on Camaros with a smaller engine and "old" style rear end. Or how Ford changed the car game with the use of assembly line, made cars affordable to average people, changed vehicle desgin forever with the 1949 Ford and the Taurus. How ford released the Ranchero and inspired chevy to build the elcamino, same can be said for the Mustang and camaro. Maybe even mention how the Foxbody Mustang made us want fun cars to drive and started the second muscle car era. Or how the Mustang Gt 350 did have "quality issues" forcing the assembly on new cars, like the ZL1.

It is all in how you word you arguement. If you need help (and decide to keep this topic) let me know, a few of my friends are chevy guys (Which lead to me beiing a Ford guy, plus dad worked at Ford in Dearborn).

its not a heart beat its a rod knock... just had to through that in there 9 out of 10 of my buddys chevys have spun rod bearings.. but every one has there flaws i did a report on something similar i pointed out the good and the bad in ford vs. chevy and explained why i liked ford more than chevy like 90% of 80s chevys around here are either a 350 auto long bed or 350 4 speed short bed there all the same parts from a 73 to 87 fit everything i like my stuff to be unique

The only thing I could think of is the fact that the 3/4 and 1-ton trucks have IFS (Chevy), which is a bad design compared to the solid front offered by Ford and Dodge.

Now if it were cars, that would be easy. The Mustang has beat the Camaro and Challenger in multiple tests, with a smaller engine and live rear axle. That would probably be the only thing I could argue. I have attempted to argue both points with other people, and I usually end up walking away cause its a stalemate.

I could probably type more but I will leave it at that.

You could have an intelligent discussion of Ford vs Chevy but you have to pick 2 specific vehicles to compare. Thing is, your subject is fawking boring as hell to anyone but us. I was old, but I was in speech class in college with a bunch of young girls right out of highschool. I looked at my audience and knew right away that I needed something better than Ford vs Chevy. Those cool magazine covers from the 70s giving suggestions on how to deal with the forecasted ice age were perfect.

I had to give a half dozen speeches in that class and I thought it was pretty easy. You do best when you don't believe in what you are saying. This was before Saddam Hussein was hauled out of his spider hole and I gave a speech which portrayed him as the savior of the Arab world. It's much easier to try to convince people of things you don't believe than of things you do believe. It clears all of the emotional crap out of your head and makes you focus on only persuasive bits. I thought of that method myself during that class and if you use it, send $9.95 to my PayPal account to cover licensing.

Biggest complaint I have on Chevy is if you are working on a V-8 and it has a carb. If you are adjusting the timing....Ford is smart and puts the dizzy in the front. Ever get your hair burned off because the carb spewed flames while you were leaned over to the back of the engine?

No .gov bailout....

Solid axle vs IFS would be a great general topic. It would bore most people, but we would like it.

My ultimate speech would be on why Genuine parts are better than aftermarket. Want a sure fire way to put your entire class asleep, do that.:icon_thumby:

I'm a Ford dealer parts guy, for the record.

Like a 2.8?

I couldn't beleive how stupid it was to put the dizzy back there as I was picking out peices of the rotor that came loose and declared war on the cap...

Explain to them why Ford discontinued the production of the Ranger and why you think they should bring it back.
