Ford 8.8" with posi and 5.29 gearing

Hey guys jut realized my driverside wheel will only spin in reverse, it will not spin forward, any idea whats wrong? Its dark s I haen't popped the diff cover yet.

Check the posi unit first before you break open the diff.

1) Jack up the rear end and with the truck in neutral spin one side. if the other side spins in the opposite direction then the posi is toast. If the spin the same direction then go to step 2.

2) jack up just one side. try to spin the opposite side. if it spins easily or decently easily then the posi is working but not very well. If it takes a whole lot of force to spin, or wont spin at all then your posi is working at least decently well.

You can also try driving in a slow figure 8 in an empty lot for a little bit to break the varnish off the clutch and see if that helps

had the whole axle up (both tires up), passenger side spins fine, driver side only in reverse, not at all forward. was told it might be the S-spring, or possibly something wrong with the brakes(seams weird that it would spin at all if the brakes were messed up). I should also note that its locked so hard it snapped my drive shaft when i was trying to get my tires unfrozen from the ground this AM

Most posi's have to build up rpm to close the clutches. Might be working as designed. Put her in a slippery place and get on it! If it works then it is working as designed.

Is it drum brake? Have you looked behind the drums? Perhaps something is jamming the brakes.
