Hey, so I think I know my answer to this, but I got a Ford 8.8" axle out of a 01 ranger 4x4. I wanted to swap it into a 1997 ford ranger 2wd. Is there any kind of modifications I need to do to the 8.8 or should it just bolt straight in? I'm pretty sure it should bolt in but I understand the 4x4 are lifted a little more than the 2wd. I wasn't sure if there was any differential angle differences to worry about.

The lift on the 4x4's is done with lift blocks in the rear, it's a direct bolt in, no modifications necessary

It would be wise to check what both pinion angles are supposed to be, minor differences are no problem. I have a chart from the shop manual that lists all the different possible pinion angles per body style/driveline.
