ok i have an 88 ranger stx 4x4 with the 7.5 rear end im about to replace one of my leaking axle seals. I checked in the owners manual for what type of lubricant its calls for hypoid gear lube. went to the parts store couldnt find hypoid gear lube

any help is this just ford code for 90w gear lube

Thanks
Jeff

I think pretty much all gear oil is "hypoid" now. It will be on the fine print on the back, use 80w-90.

GL-5 = hypoid gear lube.

GL-4 is NOT hypoid gear lube. It's (mostly) for some manual transmissions.

You'll find GL-4 if you look. GL-5 isn't all that nice in a transmission.
