Kind of a stupid question but.... Do you guys run your fog light covers on or off? I don't mean the the full KC ones that cover the whole light I mean something like these...

http://www.piaa.com/store/p/80-525-SMR-Dual-Beam-Halogen-Lamp-Kit.aspx

I was recently driving home and lost one of the covers to my Piaa 525, I'm debating just removal the other one or buying another cover. I personally don't think the cover would hinder light output that bad. On the other hand though they are there to protect the lights.

What's your opinion?

I run KC stone deflectors on mine. I have had them for years. I don't need to take off the cover when I need them. The lights shine through really nice and bright.

i ran stone guards on my lights for a year till a little fenderbender disintegrated on of them. and the other one barely stays on. so no stone covers. but how much protection do they really offer, any rock can break glass if traveling fast enough. and most gravel is smaller than the hole in the stone guard.

Rocks hitting the light or the stone guard.... It's a roll of the dice that the odds vary directly in proportion to the price of the lights.

Cheap lights chance of damage 5%
Expensive lights chance of damage 95%

I always liked the wire screen style rally covers the best.

Depending on the brand you can sometimes spin them 180deg when not used, without tools.
Or motorize them to do the same.
Maybe a motorized flip to the side cover, like some of the hidden head light cars used.

Motorized mirror parts might be adaptable, or even some flip up head light motors, not a lot of torque would be required.

They make remote control spotlights but they tend to be on the pricey side.

thats about how it goes. ive lalways liked the wire screens as well, forgot about those till you mentioned them.

My Hellas came with the white plastic covers, I ran them at first on longer trips but after awhile I quit.

The regular headlights on my truck are glass and in 13 years I haven't busted one yet. Same goes for the plastic headlights on my '150... and it had a deer bounce off of one.

I think full covers are the sexiest.

Ok.....a rock can take them out also and they look goofy (huge) and you have to remove them to enjoy the lights you spent money on purchasing and the time mounting and then running the wires and switch......lol!!!

Rep to Straycat for always speaking his mind. Anyhow Waffles I kind of have to agree with him. They do look a bit goofy. Also we're not over pimping our truck now are we? LOL just yankin' yer chain a bit there.

Am I the only guy on here that hasn't mounted driving lights on the front of his truck yet?

No driving lights on my truck yet. If I were to get them I would go with something like Straycats setup.

I like the kc lights on a roll bar or light bar on top of the truck.

Piaa makes some good fogs to, I found my 525's with a set KC's at a pawn shop for $60. The 525's are 350 new alone, guy didn't know what he had. I did. The only thing that was missing was the wiring and 3 way switch. 2 relays, 2 switches and some wire later she was good to go.

why all the switches and relays, did you do something special, like intergrating in to your headlights?

There padded, they stay clean, dry, and protected, my trucks usually on the street so, damage isn't that big of a deal. They are big, 6 inch ones, and taking them off isn't really a hassle. I just like them because they match my truck. My only concern with the plastic is that they would melt if you ran them with them on. I always plan ahead, if I know I'm driving at night and I can use them I take the covers off before hand.

Main reason is the top lights can be a PITA and those rigs don't get driven much. I use the Zuk as my DD and don't need the hassle of being accused of flashing them at people (happened to me once).
