Fm145 help

Hey guys, new member here. I have an 86 bronco 2 with the fm145 tranny. The plastic housing that holds the shifter down is busted and I can’t find the shifter replacement anywhere. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Yes, they are very hard to find. Either the housing cracks or the plastic ball breaks off the bottom. Your options are to find one at a junkyard, or replace it with a Core shifter (expensive)

If you know your transmission is in good shape, maybe it's worth the expense. Hard to justify for one that's worn out or a beat up old truck... you can judge that best.

Another option is to swap in a different transmission... FM-146 and M5OD from 89 up 2.9L and 4.0L trucks will work for you and have better shifters, but you will need a lot of other parts to make that swap happen.

It’s got me pulling my hair out lol. Core shifters is out of stock for the forseeable future and cash for clunkers killed the hood scrapyard stuff unfortunately

Yeah I feel ya. I got into Rangers in 2006, and even then shifters for these were not easy to find.

Maybe expand your search area out a little... if you can afford to wait, put out some feelers on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. I scored two rebuildable FM-145s recently that way, a guy 150 miles away in Nebraska just happened to run across my Craigslist ad.
