I own a 1985 ford ranger 4x4 with a FM-145 5-speed and I have a problem of not being able to get into first gear at all. I still have reverse and 2-5 gear. there is no grinding sounds. I took off the pan cover on the bottom and the oil looked fairly new and felt fairly new yet. also inspected the synchronizer gear for 1st gear and it still looked in great shape even for a transmission with 250,000+ miles on it. the truck was owned by an older man (I am the second owner) which does show by how little wear is on the gears. I'm sure other people have the same problem somewhere and would like to know if anyone has any idea how to fix it. also my transmission uses 80-90w gear oil and I heard about some kind of synchronizer gear oil for manual transmissions that I have heard fixes that problem. I would like to know if anyone else uses it or if I can use in in my transmission.

its like 3am over here and I got to put it back together before 11am for work

I would throw it back together and baby it to work in the morning. Someone I'm sure will chime in but probably not till tomorrow.

I've been in that boat too, desperately hoping for an answer for your dd before work.
