Anyone know what it is? What I found only goes back to '88 and says 15.2 for a reg cab short bed 2wd, can anyone confirm that?

15.2 Sounds about right for a shortbed. My '87 longbed was a 17 gallon.

The site I got the info from also said 14.5 for Supercabs :shok:

Wow, that small? I know the BII's I have had were 22+ gal. I believe the same on both gen 1 and gen 2. I know I had filled them take just a fraction over 22 when really low.

I just pulled out the shop manual for 87 ranger/BII and it states

Ranger:
Midship - SWB 15.2 Gallons
Midship - LWB 17.0 Gallons
Aft of Rear Axle 13.0 Gallons

I assume SWB is Short Wheel Base and LWB is Long Wheel Base so what ZMan said is right on the money!

By comparison

Bronco II
Aft of Rear Axle 23.0 Gallons

Wow I wouldn't have imagined that much difference between Ranger and BII.

Anyways that is the definitive info in the shop manual I have.

My 86 long bed will only take 15. Ive ran it empty and filled it with right at 15 gallons

Yep, right on about swb and lwb definitions. As for a BII having a considerably larger tank, yeah I believe it. Remember, the spare tire is on the back of the truck, so there's lots of room for a big gas tank underneath.

Shouldn't it be the same then for the 2nd or dual tank setup in a ranger then? When you have the 2nd fuel tank behind the rear axle on a ranger the spare tire gets re-located to the truck bed. But yes, the LWB dual tank rangers were 17gal front and 13gal rear. I miss that option when I had my 84 Ranger.

Another thing to remember, B2's only came with a V6, and a thirsty one at that!!

Both my 84 and 87 have the duel tanks. thats 30 gallons together....at $3.45 a gallon that adds up to $103 to fill them both. OUCH!

(my 2011 f150 has a 36 gallon tank...$120+ to fill when empty....thats why I fill it at a 1/2 tank back to full...$60. yes it sucks)

Anyone know if a replacement or a 'rebuild' kit is available for the fuel sending unit for the 1st gen Rangers? Seven years ago when I had my Ranger I could not come up with a source, no auto parts stores carry such things('88 or newer only), and discontinued by Ford. Really a PITA for a working gas gauge, found some custom shop that rebuilds them. Mine gave up because of ethanol in the fuels...

Closest thing that I have found.

I think being 30 years old had more to do with mine dying than ethonal. Old is old...

While a Bronco2 tank CAN be adapted to fitting one of the LWB (Long Bed)
trucks it cannot be fitted the same way to a SWB or Supercab

And even then mounts must be adapted for the tank because the Bronco2
has more clearance between the frame and the underside of the floor.

The rear overhang on the SWB and "super" is too short to allow the tank
to be fitted without MAJOR interference with the driver's side rear shock
and upper mount.

The OTHER issue is filler pipe location on the B2 tank "aims" the filler pipe THROUGH the Drivers side middle bed mount bolt and the un derbed cross-member that supports the bed floor.

Sometime in mid 1990 someone at ford grew a brain and increased the supercab tank size to ~19 and by modifications of the vent and filler pipes again to ~21.5 by 1993. (SOME sources quote this as 23.0)
