Fants truck

That post didn't work.

But how are things going on the truck?

Shaft frm distributor to oil pump had manage to not line up. My truck nvr left the shop aside frm one test drive. So off to buy another motor. Damn this project has been hard on my wallet.and to think it was a finished project when it blew up. It was warming up to go for a drive and rod snapped. Nxt investment is mechanical guage as well. But we live and learn

Oil pressure gauge is always a must. I made sure that mine was hooked up when I went to start it for the first time since nobody had seen the engine run or known its history other then what it came out of.

I would try and get an explorer 5.0 with the gt40 heads as they are probably the best you can get and there are plenty of them.

Just saw the picture...that said the end of it.

Good news is, another 5.0 is now a drop in thing.

I knew history of the motor. But i didnt think about a guage. Seeing how that was a brand new oil pump. And the truck was at a mechanics shop. I nvr drove it. Other than backing it off trailor. Sucks. I fount another motor for 375 plus trade but i dunno mileage or any details yet. Be nxt mnth before i can get it

Very true. I have everything to drop in diff motor. Explorer motors here are scarce. One i found is 83 f150. Its still in truck and i can crank it and drive it. So im goin to look at it

As long as its HO then it may be worth the price. I got mine for 100 and put an HO mustang cam in it.

Flat tappet non HO 150hp at best. I would keep looking, unless you are just wanting to have a 5.0 and nothing much more without spending some money.

Personally now that I have more knowledge about the 5.0 if I have to replace my current one, it will have fordged internals (pistons at least) from the factory. But I will still keep it carbed.

This is just a quick fix to get my truck on the rd. over the nxt yr or two il be investing in a custom built 302. I just dnt have the funds for it now. I gota have a truck though. I may try and find a motor with atleast a roller cam. Just pends on price and what he has nxt mnth

If you want a roller cam engine, 85 crown vics, grand marque (what I have) contain them. Other engines that are ho that are roller are the mark vii, the mustang and years 85 and up.

But since you said you can have the f150 start and run in front of you and you need ypur truck going, then I say go for it. Could end up selling iy for some of what you paid. Dony forget to strip your current ones of its goodies.

I'd worry more about the condition of the motor than if it was roller or not. As far as your other problem, almost sounds like the drive shaft was missing. Most everyone has trouble getting the two shafts aligned the first time but if they aren't, not going to get the distributor to seat down all the way. Don't need a pressure gauge, should always prime the oil system first. Pull a valve cover and quit when you see oil up the rockers.

If your shaft did break I would be looking into why it did, hopefully not because of your oil pump binding up for some reason.

Shaft didnt break. It just wasnt in the distributor shaft. It had slid down to far. I dnt knw how but it did. Oil pump was still free when i spun it with the shaft. Its like that keeper on the shaft moved down the shaft or something
