Shaft doesn't slid down into the pump anymore. That keeper just keeps the shaft from being pulled u when removing the distributor, don't even need to install it. Sounds like you need a longer shaft. Compare how long the lower housing is on the two distributors, bet the original one was longer.

10-4 mac il do that on this nxt motor i get. I found a 90 somethin f150 302 a friend has for sale. So im goin to look at it nxt week. If its good price and low enough miles il be gettin it for the roller block style. Thats what i had before. I already have everything to convert frm efi to carb. I knw one thing. Distributor will be installed while oil pan is off this time. Just to be safe. Lol
Motor is 96 f150. Aint that the same as the 94???has 160-18000 miles on it. Which is less than the 80s model 302 i found. And for 200 bucks since the ole boy tryin to help me out.
Sweet. Umm. Is the firing order on an ho motor the same as the non ho??ive nvr messed with ho motor. How will i know if it is??the motor is already out of the truck and the truck is gone.
In 97 ford changed body style and engines. U had 4.2 and 4.6 and 5.4 options. Ive nvr seen a 97 with a 5.0. I may be wrong but i think the 96 f150 was the last yr 5.0 was an option in the ford truck.
The '96' firing order is the same as the HO, uses the same cam as the Explorer. Earlier than '94' they had the old firing order 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8. Only thing that determines the firing order is the cam.

Are all 302 blocks motor mount holes offset by an inch???the drivers side of my engine sets 1 inch farther back than the passenger. Before i cut this 100 dollar motor mount and adjust it to where its 1 in forward so im not bottomed out on my slot and i have more room for fan clearance i wanted to make sure all 302 blocks are this way. Thanks guys
Is your tailshaft pointing straight back to the rear or is it angled. Cant exactly remember, but I don't think the pumpkins on the rear axles arent centered. But the engines werent centered between the frame rails.
Yea my tailshaft is straight back to pumkin. Thats the problem ive ran into is the motor is not centered. The mounts i bought frm duff have bolts dropping center of the mount. When u put motor in driver side is bottomed out sliding back to firewall. Im thinking. Drill new hole in pad and weld bolt head to it. Cut off original bolt and thatl give me an inch. Ligning the passenger and drivers side bolts off the mounts to my crossmember. Il have to weld a brace on my crossmember to support the pad that slides off the crossmemberon the firewall side. But i just wanted to make sure all 302 blocks had the same offset motor mount holes. So this fix would fit any other engine for the future
So i just read that going frm efi to carb i shouldve checked my distrib legnth on my hei cuz there is a longer oil pump shaft il most likely have to purchase. Seems like what may have been my prob is the oil pump shaft which was stock in my 94 had limited surface contact on the hei. Which is why the motor run fine for a while then lost oil pressure and slung a rod. I thought the damn thing was the same legnth for 302. I didnt knw they made two diff legnth distributor shafts. And so a very costly mistake if this was the case. Il def check with this new motor im getting. Do any of u guys knw where i can order the correct legnth oil pump shaft???i want a good one. Frm what ive read theres a 1/4 diff between the distr shafts.
Got the 96 f150 motor yesterday. Order gasket set. So today im tearing it down to replace gaskets and seals. Aside frm the heads. I sure hope round two on engines will last. My 94 made it 2.4 miles and slung a rod through the block. Cnt wait til after work to get started. Hopefully this time nxt wk il have a 302 ranger ready for the road.
