Man youve put a ton of work into this porjects. and more plans for it. Good job BTW.
thanks! almost time to have it all pay off, and i can start driving it.
i looked at the drive shaft again today, the end that goes into the tranny has splines 360° on the inside of the shaft, but if you look closely you'll notice that there is one spine that is 2 splines wide, allowing the drive shaft to only be installed ONE way into the tail shaft. now for the relation to the pinion flange, yes after a full rebuild if you don't wipe of your marks, you could easily bolt it back in the same spot, BUT if you think about it the internals have all been removed and rotated, so really everything has changed inside the diff but by lining up the marks its making people feel better? lol UNLESS by some chance the pinion flange and drive shaft are balanced together, BUT... if you are swapping a completely new diff in, and the previous one wasn't marked, you are in the same boat as removing it without marking it and installing it again. so id like to call bullshit on the whole making sure you unbolt the drive shaft and bolt it back in the same position...
all it takes is put the drive shaft into the tail shaft the only way it goes in, then swing it u to the pinion flange rotate either the flange or shaft (making sure trans is in "N" or rear tires are off the ground) and line the bolt holes up, bolt it down, give it all a few spins making sure all is good..
should get my diff back tomorrow, then the install will take pace, and ill find out myself.
