My truck failed smog because of a high fuel mixture while idling

This is the 90? What engine?

Which engine, 2.3L or 2.9L? Had a tune up lately (plugs and wires and distributor cap and rotor if 2.9L)? If late enough in '90 to have a MAF sensor I would get some MAF cleaner and clean that and if the oxygen sensor(s) haven't been changed I would change those, '90 is a split year, early models had 3 wire and later had 4 wire...

How can I tell if late or early year

If it has a mass airflow sensor in the intake between the air filter and throttle body, it's a 3 or 4 wire (don't remember) sensor within about 6" of the air filter housing.
