I wrote this for F-150 forums but it pertains to you also because its is the same factory plug and spring clip style radio. Hope you enjoy

Ok guys I had an idea to put a Escape Hybrid factory navigation unit in my 2003 F-150. This is the only Navigation unit from Ford that uses the Spring clips required to use a factory Radio.

I first bought a used 2006 escape hybrid navigation unit off ebay for $145 Great price I might add. In perfect condition. Next step was to make a wire harness this took some time to get all the right harnesses.

you will need:
1 2005-2007 Ford Escape Navigation unit.
1 Metra 71-1777
1 Metra 70-1771
13 Butt connectors or a soldering gun if you dont want to use butt connectors.
I used butt connectors took my time did a nice job and finished it off with some electrical tape and made it look good.
1 GPS antenna. They are $25 new off ebay and have the correct plug
1 PIE FRDC-AUX unit to get the Aux input also need 3.5 RCA adapter or a PIE FRDC/PC-POD2 if you want Ipod only. some limited controls over Ipod and will not support newer Ipod charging unless you also buy PIE CC-iPD

I used the FRDC-AUX because it allows for any music device or Laptop to connect. :)

Last but not least Ford CD based navigation MAP NOT the DVD I messed up had to reorder the correct one off ebay. OOPS make sure you get the one for your states.

I also added 4 new Kicker KS680 :)

PIE interface mounting location.
I mounted the PIE interface under the indash cup holder that pops out. I feel this was the best place and it does not interfere with the cup holder. It is just close enough for the interface cable to reach the back of the head unit. It also is in a great location to run the aux wire to the center console.
This location also allows you to run the cable out almost any crack or hole or area on the dash.

This could also be handy a flush mount input line to look like a factory install.
AUX35 flush Mount

Warning
If you have A CD changer now this will disconnect it.

FYI this radio has a SUB AMP plug so you can add or keep an AMP and SUB

You can also add a 3 AUX switch so you can have MP3 player SAT radio or something els PIE X-3 Multi-Source

Questions just ask. I will be happy to help.

I will have to look into this..i want something different for my truck, but i want to keep my ipod and everything for my music, as that is the only thing i listen to.
