External Inline Fuel Pump

I am using a 4.0 from a 92 Explorer in a unique application. I need to feed it fuel from an inline, external electric fuel pump. The manual says I need 35-45 lbs pressure with key on, engine not running, but no flow requirements. I am having trouble finding a fuel pump that will be compatible with this engine where an intank fuel pump is not feasible. Has anyone solved this problem before?
 
stocker only flows about 65 lph (max) so all you have to do is find one with that minimal flow at the pressures stated.

Make sure your tank is ABOVE the pump and has a bottom-mounted outlet, or you'll be at risk to vapor lock, and your pump will require priming.
 
Thanks for the flow spec and the tank tip. I have not yet finalized my tank, so that will be easy to incorporate.
I found a pump at O'Reillys this morning, 40 PSI, their price was nearly three hundred dollars! I can't believe that pumps should be that expensive. I found that Carter also makes one.
 
Youre not looking very hard. Certain big speed shops sell inlines that produce 45 psi

Depending on what your "unique" application is, I'll just throw my 2cents your way, I have run in a few demo, derby's and have set up cars for a few more, and do set them up with fuel injection the cheep way.

I bought a supply pump from a parts store $35 to pull the fuel from the fuel tank then I went to the junk yard and bought a pressure pump from a 88 ranger ( the one that mounts to the frame ) and hooked it up after the supply pump.

I would just connect them to a toggle switch but you could hook them up to a relay depending on your application.

I have used this set up on GM and FORD application and works perfectly. You will also need to run a return line from the fuel rail back to the tank.

Just figured I would let you know those old ford pressure pumps work great in this way.

I have also used this on GM and ford V8's with no problems at wide open throttle.

i am using a external ford f150 fuel pump late 80's early 90's v8(can't remember for sure). got it at a junk yard for a few dollars(can't remember for sure). i also have a unuique application(4.0 in 90 samurai). works really well. i have it mounted very close to my fuel tank.
 
Thanks guys, some more to investigate. My "unique" application is a replica of a 1936 Mercedes roadster, Marlene Dietrich edition.

I have found some more reasonable pumps and other solutions people have used, I will check these out more. Ford vans also used some sort of a frame mounted pump for the FI models I understand. One system that seems to be good is to use an "ordinary" electric pump back near the tank to supply a high pressure pump mounted further downstream, since the higher pressure pumps don't have a lot of suck power. So far I have found Walbro and MSD makes FI pumps that supply correct pressure.
 
Gasoline fuel pump

Most Car quest/Napa parts stores have/can get electric fuel pumps for many pressures. I recently got a 65PSI pump for $130. The in tank factory pump was $450. This hi pressure pump requires a hi pressure fuel line also. A good external filter would be advisable. The hi pressure fuel line is about $10 per foot. A copper fuel line works good too. Connect the fuel pump with a good 30amp 12 volt relay. Don't forget a return line to tank. Pump location not important. Frank

That pump will flow sufficient fuel to feed a 460v8 so feeding a 4.0 isn't a real problem.

Plus because it's for an F-series it's as common as a part can get.

But those were for engines with carbs, it is not the flow quantity, but the pressure needed for FI that I am after, right? Most of the carb pumps only put around 5-7 lbs pressure maximum, and it ALL goes to the carb. Manual says I need 35-45 lbs, and since a lot of it goes back to the tank in the return line, it appears pressure AND flow is necessary.
