I'm interested in putting one my 5.0 in my ranger but I just wanna make sure they're all compatible with my block. I don't know anything about the explorers and their quirks. Any info will be greatly appreciated!
Is there a certain year that's better?
What year has the largest diameter throttle body?
What's your recommendations?

Explorer 5.0 used a 65mm throttle body. If you use the throttle body without the 90deg elbow adapter, you will need to modify the plate the throttle cable clips to. It's a simple mod that Google will show you.

They will fit any 302 based long block combo you have.

If EGR is a concern, early ones had the internal setup (up to 1997?) and later had the external.

Sweet thank you! Im not sure about the egr yet. I have a Holley commander 950 efi set up i got in a trade. I have to read up on it more but if I can bypass the egr I will.

Here's a link to a mustang forum I found where they used a explorer intake.

Not sure if all the Explorers are set up for internal EGR but just cleaning up mine off a '98' and it has all the porting for internal but uses the external EGR. Got a 2000 that I could easily pull and check.

If you wouldn't mind that would be great! I have to look at my heads I think they don't even have a port for the exhaust cross over. I'm assuming that would be where the internal egr works from?

As far as I can tell, all the Explorers had the cross-over exhaust provision, that goes way back to the carb days to heat up the incoming air/fuel mixture. Even most aftermarket heads have the cross-overs, the GT40-P heads do. It's the difference in the 90deg elbow from the '96' to early Explorer TB elbows that were made to accept the internal or were blocked off. Lots just block them off no matter which system unless smog concerns.

Oh very nice! I should be good then. Thanks a ton!
I'm still at work and I don't have a clue when I will be able to go home lol. Hopefully I can get about 8 days of OT and pay for everything I need to finish this truck!

Just ordered a upper and lower manifold set off eBay. I'm gonna take my spare block in to get rebuilt as soon as I finally get a day off and then she should in up and running by the end of next month!
My oil pump is going out in the engine I have now so I haven't drove her much the past couple months. Been meaning to change the pump but haven't had a day off in 2 1/2 weeks. And before that it was 109 degrees so I didn't wanna do it lol.

What did you give for it? I just sold one for 75 dollars - just curious what they are going for elsewhere.

$129.00 but then the douche bag wanted to charged me $99 to ship it! I talked him down to $85. Still wasn't happy about that.

Holy schnikes. I made about 50 dollars off of mine. I pulled it and paid 27 dollars for it. But it was a PITA to pull, plus I left my 60 dollar socket set sitting there - and someone took it. So I guess that overall I lost out. LOL

Lol dang that blows!

What socket would cost $60??? That's crazy!

Lol oh I'm a tard. I gotchya now.
