Exhaust tips rattling against bumper

I have recently noticed that the tips to my magnaflow duals are rattling against my bumper. Is it ok to just try to push them down, or will this break those arms that are supporting the pipes?

They were not originally this way, it's happening because of where I live I have to pull in to driveways that are pretty steep. So when I do this they are scraping against the pavement. Going up these inclines at an angle seems to help.

You could try prying on them, or maybe the closest hanger to try to move them. If driving is causing this though, it's likely to just keep happening. Depending on what is bending, it may eventually fatigue and break, unless you make an effort to drive so they don't get bent.

+1

hit the driveways slowly, and at as much of an angle as possible. if the tips still scrape, remove them and install something shorter or of a smaller diameter.

Thanks guys, I was talking to my dad about this, and he suggested putting something on that part of the bumper that won't melt or catch fire that will prevent it from rubbing. He suggested asbestos. I like the smaller pipes idea more (less cancer LOL).

the exhaust that far back doesnt get very warm. i used chunks cut out of the sidewall of an old tire as vibration isolators for my escorts exhuast...hasnt melted yet and i have a chunk up be the header collector.

but i think it would look goofy since you would be able to see whatever is stuffed between the bumper and tip.

well I'm gonna try to pry them down a little bit, and watch the angle of approach for the driveways. If that doesn't work I'm gonna get some smaller tips.

i seen a guy with an f150 with duals with the same problem. he took bolts with like spacer you see behind the throttle spring cover(the plastic one) under ur hood, the aluminum shims about an inch long. he took two bolts and put the shims around them. drilled 2 holes in his tips and mounted them like that. no more problems at all

what about cutting off the silly tips all together and running turndowns under the bed?

won't that cause the parts under the bed around turndowns to rust due to the water vapor?

not because of water vapor...because of the corrosive gasses that gasoline engine exhuast contains.

im tired of trying to talk people out of turn downs under the vehicle. they sound stupid, they are bad for your truck, and they can be dangerous to your health....but everybody loves them.

i wasn't really thinking about doing that anyway

lift it so it doesnt scrap when you go up the driveway.

that kinda contradicts your signature JeepRecoveryTeam
