Escorts 2nd SAS

Keep the Dana 30 and build a 31 spline 8.8 with a Super 88 kit. Gear it and call it a day. Save the dana 44 for another day.

That's kinda what I've been thinking. Might even check into the c-clip eliminator??
If it wasn't so damn cold out, I would go to take-a-part and pull one.

You seem to have a nice truck and it seems to work well. I would keep the current drivetrain until you really break it.

I hope to get a bender with part of my tax return :) First year with a kid. Kind of excited haha

It's nice from a distance. Lol

Yup id wheel it till somthing pops whichever it is replace that axle first

Well, if a 30 does "pop", they are super cheap and millions of them out there. Maybe I can keep an eye out for a bare housing Dana 30 for cheap and build it with a truss and keep it as a back up. Would still be cheaper that building a 44.

C clip eliminator is pointless on a disc 31 spline. The caliper will keep the shaft from coming out if it fails. Not to mention if you ever go D44 up front you will be stuck with lug adapters in the rear because having custom 5x5.5 shafts made in a custom semi float shaft will be pricey.

You already have a locker for the 28 spline, so I would stay with that until the locker fails or you snap a shaft.

Correct, forgot about the disc brakes.

My opinion...
Upgrade after multiple breakages. You break a D30 shaft once in 2 to 3 years, I'd say stick with a 30. If you are breaking something every time you go out, thats when i would start to look at upgrading. Lockers and aftermarket shafts and steering and gears and the list goes on adds up REALLY quick.

Never broke a 30 shaft..yet.
Only thing I've had to replace was one u-joint and bearing units.

Build up a D44 and sell me your D30 for pennies on the dollar so I can build a little reg cab DD.

Jk. ..Rock that D30 until its bent twisted and screaming for mercy.

Ok, think I will just keep what I have. And when weather gets warmer go see what take-a-part has for 31 spline axles.

I think I will keep an eye out for a good 30 that is SUPER cheap and truss/gusset it for when the 30 does break in half.

oh shit. I forgot you're setup has unit bearings. At 80ish bucks a piece, that somewhat changes things...

How often do you destroy UBs? If it's once in every couple years, look for a lifetime warranty setup next time and keep rocking.

If you're blowing them up every couple of months, then check to see how much an aftermarket setup would be. If the cost of building up that 30 is more than what you can buy a 44 that will BOLT IN to your setup, I would then start looking at that. So pretty much, you will need to be able to get a TJ rubicon 44 front, or a highly modified 44, or completely change everything you have now.

It is kind of pointless, but the kit makes that axle stupid strong and the axle shafts that come with it already have the 5x5.5 bolt pattern drilled in it. :icon_thumby:
