Engine won't stay running

No stethoscope, however now the truck is missing and it took three tries to start it to get it going. It would backfire a few times first. Now it won't start at all. It's getting spark but it's just turning over. A guy was watching me try to start it and he was telling me that it's the crankshaft position sensor. Which is what I'm thinking also. And I never replaced the ECM.

Replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it still won't start. Seems like it's not getting enough fuel now. And now the starter won't disengage. I had to pull the negative off the battery.

Starter relay on fender turns starter motor on and off.
Small post, "S", has a wire to the ignition switch, it should only have 12v(battery voltage) when key is turned to START position, this is what close the Relay and connects battery to starter motor.

Yeah there must be something grounding out in that wire. I'm in the middle of pulling the whole dash apart -_- I just pulled that small wire off the starter relay post and connected the battery. The starter is still spinning.

That solenoid looks old...I thought you replaced it.

I'd swap it out if that hasn't been done, but since you are replacing the key section if that doesn't do it then it's almost certainly the solenoid. A short in the key mechanism might be part or all of the problem.

The solenoid is brand new. It's just seen a few dirt roads in the last few weeks. Got the solenoid reset. Think it was stuck. Truck still won't start though.

If it was stuck then it needs to be replaced again.

The smaller wire on the center post is the "S" wire, it comes from the ignition switch under the steering column, the Key switch, when rotated, slides the ignition switch into its 4 positions
ACC, OFF, RUN, START

In START that "S" wire gets 12volts, starter relay activates and passes battery voltage to starter motor.
This is a high current relay and has close tolerances, slight gap can cause a sparking in the relay that creates a sticking spot for future activations.

Could have been the ignition switch but keep an eye on that relay

I've seen new starter solenoids get stuck, they are usually the cheaper ones.

dont know how yours is setup, but on my 94 the large post on the starter mounted solenoid goes direct to battery. the smaller terminal (on the start solenoid) goes up to the solenoid mounted on the fender. to check if its the starter itself short between the large post and terminal and see if it still hangs. if it does, the starter needs help.
