Hello I recently bought a 1991 Ranger with the 2.3l 5 speed with 127000 miles and I have been noticing that the truck doesn't have the power that I feel it should as some days the truck has no problem accelerating and others wants to take 3 years to get to 50. I have also noticed that any slight hill the truck will have noting in 4th or 5th so have to go up in 3rd and will drop quickly from 55-60 to 35-40. So I decided to run an OBD1 check and saw a code for duel ignition failure so I went and replaced both coil packs and wires (desperately needed appears to be factory). After changing the truck would start up and sound rough and when I pressed the throttle would bog out then stall. So I went back and made sure I had the wires in the correct place and that the coil packs weren't the issue and everything appears fine. As I was messing around testing different things the truck stopped starting and turns out the ICM was bad. After replacing truck started right up and was still having same issue and can tell it's running rich took off intake hose truck ran a little better but still misfiring and stalling out with 1/4 throttle. Was wondering if anyone has had this issue before I just throw my wallet into the bon fire buying different things trying to fix it.

PS. I also did the timing about 3000 miles before hand and everything seemed aligned right.

Sir, you must be very cautious when hooking the plug wires to your coil. The 4,5,and 6 are too very easily confused and misplaced. I think you could find a great number of us who have done this.

Please double check your plug wire placement
Good luck, check back if it's not
