'93 Ranger. After turning on the on the brights (not flash to pass) the wipers and the washers come on and stayed on. Even if the vehicle is turned off then back on they come back on. The washer pressure is unreal making me believe it is getting more power than it should - talking hitting some 12' up on a wall that is about 15' from the windshield (behind the vehicle). Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery had no impact.

Brief history: Brights, washer pump, and wipers were working last week. The MFS, headlight connector, headlight switch, and both MFS connectors were recently replaced - it was after that replacement that they were verified as working.

My son wired in a CB with the hot pulling from an accessory fuse - the CB works and we did not notice anything after the install, but we did not run the vehicle for a few days.

Today we completed an engine repair (replaced a lifter) so the top of the motor was wired back up. During the process the hot from the alternator was grounded against the outside of the alternator when putting it back on (yes, someone hooked the battery up too soon). I have no idea if this is what caused the problem but it is the only 'significant' electrical event.

The engine starts, and everything works except the reported problem. We had to pull the 30 amp for the wipers to turn them (and the pump) off.

What brand multifunction switch did you install? A few months ago I replaced the MF switch on my Bronco with an Echlin one from Napa and it was defective right out of the box. (Echlin parts are garbage, stay far away from them!) It had almost the same symptoms you're having: it would turn the wipers on every time I used the turn signals, and there wasn't realy any way to turn them off.

I replaced the switch with a Motorcraft one and it's been fine ever since.

I would need to check on the mfg., but it was not a Motorcraft part. I did cut a corner with that purchase so it makes sense that it could be the 'new' switch - paid around $60 where average is around $100+. Maybe I will go buy a real one and try it. I can always return it if it does not change anything.

You hit it dead-on. Picked up a BWD and dropped it in. Problem solved.

FWIW, this is the piece of junk I bought the first time.

Casting numbers are the same as the BWD, so I am hopeful that the difference is in the assembling/soldering process.
