Electric fan swap installation troubles (square peg, round hole)

Its a stock 4.0ohv. I wish for a v8, but Im in Cali home of the smog check emissions nazis. I'm lucky to sneak a cat back exhaust, cant even mess w/ the stock airbox! and the inspection/ sniffer test is every 1-2 years (and $60 bucks)! Back in the days we were able to get a "dirty smog" done for major bucks, but it got cracked down on and now is just about impossible to get around. Most take the $500 bucks they offer to junk the car if it doesnt pass.

Ok, one line off on the forum list lol.

Yeah for a 4.0 Ranger Ford thought the single row was adequate so it probably doesn't really matter much.

Eddo:

Yes it is the 16" fan. I can't measure it right now but I vaugly remember that I didn't exactly center the fan/shroud (it is down and to the right a little) Do you have side to side room to "miss" the water pump bump?

If you can see it in the top down pic, it is directly to the radiator, it lays flush on the fins, though attached from the upper and lower brackets.

I'll snap some pics of mine today. The Mercedes pusher fans are nearly too powerful; they move so much wind that they overcool the thermostat housing on the 2.9 and prevent the thermostat from opening. I have them on a switch only for emergency use.

My 16" main puller setup cost around $100 all in. American volt thermostat, Amazon thermostat housing in LOWER hose, cheap fan kit from eBay, and some aluminum flat bar and tubing. I reused my factory shroud.

It's built like a one piece module which let's me pull the rad by removing two hose clamps and two bolts. Works freaking great.

I'll post some pics in a bit.

I would probably retain a 2 relay setup and run one fan or two fans as opposed to the low speed vs high speed setup i have now.

Would be very easy to do. Mine is out now because there's a massive intercooler where they and my ac condenser used to be.

Sorry I am trying to control my rants lol, and laugh instead of cry over my frustrations.

Im just gonna grab a single core from the local parts store to fit the efan, and if it works, and keep my current thick core/fan clutch setup handy just in case...I can always just go back...Still gotta weld up my custom exhaust soon as the flanges and hangers show up. Kinda over my ranger being parked and apart when its not even broken down 🤦‍♂️.
