I am doing an auto to m5od swap and a counter guy at my local jy said it is somewhat specific when swapping ECMs. I am doing an 88 so my question is what years will work? is there a certain range or is it a number thing? Thanks for experienced help.

Going from Auto to Manual, I don't think you will have a problem with your ECM.

im not sure on the 88, but i know 89 and up do require a different ecm. i have one from a 90 B II, 2.9 5 speed if it will work for you. i actually have 2 B II's im parting out. drivetrain from an 84, and most of a 90. if you need pedals, i have both styles

The point here isn't that there were different ECMs from the factory for manual and auto trans. The point is whether or not you "need" a different ECM when swapping to a 5 speed. I have a lot of experience with this in the Mustang genre. And when swapping in a 5.0 situation, an auto ECM is fine in a 5 speed situation. But you could not use the manual ECM with an Auto trans. That is why I posted what I did, that I thought in his situation as well, it would work. Both are EEC IV systems.
