Hey been a while since i have got on here. But finally im going to get around to swapping a explorer 8.8 in my 88 ranger. I was wondering if i go with a 8.8with discs what do i have to do to convert for the ranger, like the proportion valve from the explorer need to be swapped too? Let me know what yins think thanks.

I checked the tech section and this is what they said; "The 1990-1994 Explorer 8.8-inch axle came with 10-inch drum brakes. 1995 and newer Explorers have disc brakes. People have reported that they have swapped in a newer disc brake 8.8-inch axle in place of their original drum brake axle without having to switch to a disc brake master cylinder." I'd try it and then if there was problems I'd get an after market [adjustable] proportioning valve.
Hopefully some one with personal experience will chime in.
