After trying several smaller pullers, I got the heavy duty OEMTools one from Amazon to pull the drums off. After two iterations we have success!! Looks like almost a quarter of a shoe rusted to the inside of the drum, o_O. Which would explain so many things about why the thing didn't want to come off.

Those shoes look new... LOL

Congratulations on getting it.

Definitely time for the Mustang rear disc brake upgrade. Same sort of reason I apparently had no effective rear drum brakes.

I have written up a journal with pictures detailing the conversion for my '02 Ranger if that is helpful. Just send PM me an email address.

why i just cut them off. turning that true will warp the hell out of it in use.

There was a TSB about sealing the holes in the backing plates to prevent that, the left side brakes would get rusty due to water intrusion. I sealer the backing plates on my 2004 when I did the PDI and the original brakes were still in good shape when I traded it toward my 2011. I pulled the drums every May for state inspection, dumped out the dust and put the drums back on. on the 2011, I had to disassemble the rear disc brakes, grind the rust off all the slide points and relube everything every spring.
