Is this correct? :

1) the drum axle is good for e-brakes a direct hookup & the brake lines are the same.

2) the disc are better, but the e-brake is a bitch & I don't know about the brake lines.

3) I can take a driveshaft from either Explorer and it's a direct swap to my 2000 Ranger.

I've found some axles and thought I'd ask seems how they are the same price. I need a one day swap as the Ranger is a DD.

Thanks!!

Both rearends are a swap out, BUT.....accordin to your info, this is a 2000
4X4?

If so, then you will have to move the leaf spring perches, as an Explorer rearend drops a Ranger 4" in the rear.

I've done both types in my 94......started with a 92 Explorer 8.8 and then came across a 98 Explorer 8.8 w/discs for the right price, so I swapped it again.

Both hookup simple with the original brake lines, but the E-brake has to custom done, no swap out the I know of.

As for driveshaft, ya just have to check em out, no sure on the 4X4 stuff.

Hope this answers some of your ?'s on the swap.

GOOD LUCK!!!

You'll have to use the Explorer brake hose, but it does fit where it connects to the Ranger hardline (both disc or drum).

You will need to modify things a bit to hook up the P-brake cables to the disc axle though.
On mine, I made a new frame bracket to support the cable (stock it's attached to the leaf spring hanger bolt), and modified some of the old linkage pieces using a nut and some threaded rod to attach the Ex brake cable to the stock forward cable.

On your 2000, the pinion flange will be the same on the Ex axle as your stock flange. Your driveshaft should hook up to it fine.
