does everyone in the world hate rotary engines?

close car friends say go for it. but of course people online say different. but thats usually bc they dont understand the engine or are scared of it lol. and i want something different. nobody around here has a 13b-rew slammed in a miata. just a couple turbo 4 bangers which are still pretty bad ass miatas but nobody with a rotary yet

who f*cking cares what people on the internet think? What...... its not enough that kids these days have to worry about being cool in the hall ways but they have to worry about being cool on the internet.........

if you are worried about what internet people think then you should just kill yourself now and get it over with........

quit worrying about what douche bag internet ricers think and build your car.

If you want to be different and don't mind working on it, then I say DO IT!!!!

I can set you up with someone thats very, very knowledgeable about 'em. I know some , but he knows a lot more.

I say go for it. If you truely want it, go for it. Forget what everyone says other wise. Mazda wankel engine in a Mazda chassis, sounds like a win win kinda of deal.

I love the later model RX-7's. They are just sexy machines. Until that movie came out and every little punk just had to have one.

Rotary engines are not exactly unreliable. That is more misinformation from the wonderful internet. The problem is people that don't know how to build them that do it anyhow.

The RX-7's that would likely be the donor for this project used to easily last through 150k miles of ass-whoopings.

woah killer settle down. i was just making sure there wasnt any info i didnt know about the engine that would cause lots of problems. and if i were to follow your advise i it would make sense bc then i would be listening to what someone said over the internet...... good job at thinking that one thro

some movies ruin everything. but, i learned about the RX-7s on a game called Grand Turismo A-spec (years before the movie) i have loved the car ever since. Honestly too, i like the RX-8.

I say go for it. I love those lil engines from what I've seen. Rev so damn high. One of these days I'll pick up a rotary project... because if you've never dealt with it... your opinion is practically worthless.

First off rotaries don't exactly rev to 9000 rpm or higher. The crankshaft speed is that high but the actual 10 lb a piece triangles are doing about 3000 rpm's each. One revolution of the rotor equates to 3 revs of the crank. Let me know what you may need help with but try places like pineappleracing.com and some others for parts and pieces you may need, or i can come up with some odd things you may need. Like I said i've built a couple of these, but my best friend eric is supid about them. It's all he does with his spare time.

rotary engines give me a stiffy. if i was 100% sure it wasnt illegal or immoral, id have one in my mr2

Heck, why not one in a Ranger if you want to go that far? I will admit, they do have a cool, unique sound.

or if you want to shift at 15 or 16000 build a balls to the wall wankel

Wankels are "revvier" than many piston engines but 15000rpm from a mazda?

Not only no, but HELL NO.

the issue is that because of centrifugal force the engine destroys it's apex seals if you rev it past 9000rpm or so for any length of time.

once the apex seals fail the engine won't even start....

One of the revviest engines ever built for a street car is the engine Toyota put in the early MR2

I like the idea of a rotary in a Miata... I was considering putting one in my mg midget before life changed my mind.

I went to school with GIovanni Gonzales, son of carlos Gonzales. He owns GT Welding in Ocala fl and is a two time world champion rx7 racer. Giovanni has as far as I know broken two of his dads records. They run two rx3's, three 2nd gen rx-7 and one third gen they were prepping 5 yrs ago, im sure its done by now. He has been known to run as much as 42 lbs of bost on stock internal with the early rotary motors. The new renesis motor, has dished rotors, meaning a larger combustion port, since you cant adjust compression on these motors, they are naturally a ahigh horsepower low torque motor, but designed for massive boost. I only know of one guy who ran a rotary in a miate, and he needed 13 inch tires out back just to grab the street. It was insane. One of the baddest swaps Ive ever seen. Rotary's are awesome motors and they only have 6 moving parts to boot! Theres alot of late 80's hype about them due to wives tales and the dark ages ideals of tuning. But theres alot you can do with them. I say you go for it.
