does everyone in the world hate rotary engines?

I can't say about the newer rotary engines but the early ones had serious wear issues with the rotary piston tips, those 3 points where the rotary piston meets the wall of the piston. I have no idea what that part is called. Can't call it a ring =>

In any case I am not sure if its going to have enough torque to push a ranger around without revving the crap out of it.

Apex seal

The apex seals are pretty much the only wearable parts on the motor, But they offer many different types of aftermarket seals. Its pretty much a complete engine rebuild, but with 6 moving parts like I said, and the 20B Is i think 4 rotors instead of 3. Mostly for racing only, but intheory, you can keep adding rotors all day long. (your only restricted by length of offered crankshafts)

i say go for it. rotaries are badass simply because they are simple, unique, and capable of VERY SERIOUS power. and hardly anyone knows anything about em so thats a plus for me (love having unique vehicles).

PLUS, its a mazda, so its still basically a ford motor more or less. its not like the blasphemy of putting a govt motors or slowpar powerplant in your ranger.

Ford had nothing to do with the rotary. Mr wankel invented it, tried to sell it to ford, said nope, tried gm they toyed with it and made a prototype corvette, and said nope after numerous tries mr wankel sold it to mazda of japan, and the rest it history

yeah well i was just saying that ford pretty much owns mazda so its not as bad a putting a chevy 350 in your ranger haha. i know it originated in germany? with mr wankel, but above all the one this guys considering using is a mazda.

ford took over mazda in 93 or 94 so the 3rd gen rx7 is made by ford they may still have the rotary but it is still a ford product:icon_thumby:

this is blatantly false, do not spread misinformation like this please.

also, ford sold it's share of mazda back to mazda.

Ford has never had anything to do with the rotary, period. Also to those saying you can rev it to 15 K, if you de "stroked" the eccentricity, and got rotors that wieghed only a couple pounds a piece maybe, just maybe you could, but the stock redline for and of the older rotors is around 9K, the renisis got it's rotors lightened a little and harder stationary gears so you can rev them just slightly higher

theere are two simple routes to "more power" from a wankel....
One is to boost it (turbos work best)

the other way is to stack two of them together.

You can't do more than that because you get into total torque issues, on a boosted mazda stacking two together is pretty much the limit because if you snap the flywheel flange off the back engine how much power the ones up front are making is pretty much irrelevant.

With NON boosted rotaries nobody has sucessfully stacked more than three together without breaking stuff.

So you can run a stock two rotor, make a four rotor (and keep your turbocharger)
or stack together a three rotor and skip the turbocharger.

But there's another rub.

fuel consumed is more about "run time".

Frankly to a great degree Mazda's get the same crummy mileage regardless of how light or heavy your right foot is.

that isn't to say there isn't a difference, but the difference is far smaller than it is on a conventional piston engine.

In short, they are powerful, but they also have a healthy appetite
