im thinking of getting e3 plugs for my ranger but i dont know if they'll help any. its getting a full tuneup probably tomarrow.

Please don't waste your time with the E3 plugs. Motorcraft or Autolite double plats. E3s are a con to separate you from your money. I replaced my original motorcraft plugs at 100,000 miles...gap had widened to .075-.080. Still ran great. Installed e3s and had misfires. Needless to say...E3s are junk.

thanks for the info. but i got another question. are bosh plat+4 any better or are those about the same.

I tried the Bosch plugs once; they only lasted about 30,000 miles. In my opinion, Motorcraft or Autolites do work the best, as I've gotten 100,000 out of a set without any problems.

Yep! The word is that Bosch plugs suck, also.

The day that any kind of spark plugs really do improve performance and economy over ordinary plugs will be historic.....a lot of gimmicks have been submitted and theyve all been BS.

The cylinder's contents either fire or they don't. There are a lot of trick plugs and plug wires that use an additional gap or resonant components in the wires to increase plug voltage; problem is, the cylinder still only needs a certain voltage and modern ignitions are more than capable of providing this voltage reliably. Hell, most modern formula one engines typically end up using the manufacturer's ignition and frequently their engine management computers taken straight from their production line. I'd even go so far as to say if the TFI module was built for more durability and not mounted on the distributor it would have been a decent setup....either way, the Ford EDIS system now used is pretty good stuff.

Trick spark plugs are one step above the tornado BS and two steps above the magnetic fuel line crap.

The best plugs for a late model Ford are the ones they specified.

i have one last question. is champion double plats good?
and what wires, cap and rotor from pepboys would be good?

How about none, none, and none. Read what they are telling you, get motorcraft or autolite. The factory knows what works best, so its best to stay factory. 'Nuff said.

I have a question about ignitions while were here, (not trying to tread jack here sorry) But I am durasparking my truck and want to replace the ignition. Would a higher voltage system help the missfiering in the cold, cause the spark would be hotter and therefore more capable of burning the fuel in the engine when it is cold... right?

And Autolites are what I run, I had a set of autolite plugs (just the cheapies) and they still looked brand new when I pulled them, I have autolite platniums now and they are both pretty decent cept the iridium or platnium core broke out on one of my plugs put an old one in runs fine:icon_thumby:.

bust out your history books then.

i saw those E3 plugs tested on trucks (or one of the like shows) a few months ago. using a crate engine hooked to an engine dyno, they did 6 pulls with time to cool between each run. 3 pulls with the leading platinum plug and 3 pulls with the E3's. the E3 plugs provided a consistant improvement in power (i dont recall the exact number...something in the range of 5-7 hp) and lowered BSFC considerably. meaning in this case, yes the provide more power with less fuel.

i know one series of tests doesnt prove anything...but a strong arguement none the less :dunno:

A duraspark system will produce more than enough juice for most street engines.

horsepower tv i think, i vaguely remember it.

Well I have the Gm module not the pinto ignition just a vaccum advance distrubutor and a non computer controlled 2150 motorcraft carb, so I wasn't sure, plus I want the hoter spark to ignite cold fuel more than power purposes.

I remain skeptical for my part.

Nothing wrong IMO with a HEI module, so long as it's bolted to a cool metal surface with good heatsink compound....and IME they don't like long wires between them and the pickup coil in the dizzy.
