I am at the junk yard and found a F7 axel off a 1988 ford ranger and I was wondering if it is an easy swap into a 1996 ranger XLT 2wd with a 2.3 L4

F7 should be a 7.5 L/S 4.10 gear.

If the yoke is the same... it should bolt right up.

'88 rear axle assy is 2 inches narrower than your '96 axle - one inch on either side. Spring perches are the same, shock mounts are the same. Driveshaft U joint may have to be changed to mate to '88 diff flange. Not a big deal.

If you can’t use it I’d love to have it. Let me know where you are if you don’t want it. Thanks!

I'll let you know if it doesn't fit but I live in Utah so if you are anywhere in the sounding states I might be willing to meet half way

Thanks but I’m in Missouri so that would be quite a trip.
