diesel ranger convertions?

go to www.shadetreeconversions.com might get some interesting ideas. i to have tried to find a easy way to go the diesel rout most motors are to big the rest are to small. my thioughts maybe a 4cyl nesson diesel but then there underpowered

Here in Brasil, Ford produced a serie of F-4000 (a very small truck) in 80 years (https://www.ford.com.br/fordcaminhoes/#F4000) which uses Ford 4.268 (268 pol) tractor diesel engine. The only difference was the diesel pump inline Bosch (insted of LUCAS-CAV - in tractor)

For Rangers, the best choise is the HS2800 (135hp) engines, a developed version of HS2500 from Land Rover Defender.

In Brasil, brazilians Turbo diesel Rangers uses the following combinations:

HS2500 (called Maxion-Rover, now International - engine from Land Rover Defender - discontiued)
HS2500 - 115hps
Mazda M5R1 Gearbox
Dana 35 front axle and Ford 8.8 rear - 4,56:1 ratio (too slow combination)
BW 1354 TCase

Note? It has a very slow performace, but good marks of comsumption

HS2800 - An evolution of HS2500 made by International Engines (who own Maxion/Perkins in Brasil)called Powerstroke
HS2800 - 132cv (wg) or 135cv (VNT)
Eaton FSO2405F gearbox
Dana 35 front axle and Dana 44/3 rear - 4,10:1 (2001/2002) and 3,73:1 ratios
BW 1354 T Case

International NGD 3.0E common rail
NGD/PS 3.0 - 163cv (can be updated to 227cv by EPROM reprograming) and 380Nm
EATON FSO 2405A gearbox
Dana 35 front and Dana 44/3 rear axle. 3.54?1 ratio
BW 1354

That is the Brazilian combination Ranger diesel

Do not make confusion with HS2800 engine and MWM Sprint 2.8L. Both has the same size (2,8L) but they came from too distinct conceptions

I have done a good amount of research and am actually doing this as the next big conversion to my 94. I am gonig with a 4BT for the reasons stated throughout this thread. Most of the accessory parts from a dodge will work, chevy tranny (i.e. 4L80E), it fits with minimal cutting and welding, and with all the work in my frontend, the 700# motor wont be anything. Plus there is a growing aftermarket for them. I found a few guys on 4btswaps.com that have done RBV's. The only problem with this swap is the price. Its going to cost close to 10 grand once its finished. The 4BT swap has already been performed as well. Check out the link below

I would love one of those brazilian diesel engines but importing from Brazil is basically impossible, so with that out of my head...........

I am using a 3.0 Mercedes 5cyl turbo diesel (OM617) along withthe ZF 4spd auto trans from a MB 300D sedan, and putting it in a 1st generation 2wd explorer.
Love the reliability of the 4.0 A4LD in my 92 and the bulletproof twin I beam and 8.8 LS rear, but really hate the shitty fuel economy.

so over the summer when the wife is driving her like new 93 aerostar(only 76,000 km no rust) i will be disemboweling my 1985 Mercedes diesel winter beater and transplanting the powertrain into her 2wd Explorer.:icon_welder::shok::rockon::clapping::temper::c-n::3gears::black_eye::icon_cheers::icon_confused:

its a 4000lb plus car. 125 hp/185ftlb diesel:D

I suggest you to search in USA because there is a group using this engines in Land Rovers Defender.

A small diesel engine is closer than it apeear to you. You can find it in Canada

Forget the MWM Sprint engine. This is a great engine (in commercial uses, better than HS) but it is never used in any brazilian Rangers.

Another great (bur more difficult to find) option is International NGD3.0E called Powerstroke Eletronic. 163hps but reprograminig EPROM you can get more than 200hps. The only disadvantage of this engine is the ECU made by Siemens (Bosch is the basic system in Brasil).

:icon_rofl:

and the pilots license to operate it.

What???? It fits perfectly with a little "TRIMMING". :icon_rofl:

I located a '88 Ranger with a perkins 2.2 runnning but body is rottsville thinking about buying and swapping into my 90 ranger. i havent read or heard much about the perkins, anybody done this?

diesel in a ranger is it worth it

we are considering the modification, but when i average about 27mpg, getting only 32 to 35 after the swap does not seem worth it, the link to the jeep says 45mpg if i remember correctly, now that sounds worth while, i am suprised no post of actual builds of this came up, i would really like to see what we can squeese out of it, i am also wondering about some tricks to boost the gas eng mpg, can adding a turbo make that happen?

really ticked about fords decision to stop ranger production, idiots!!
