deos any one know if a 5.0 will bolt up to a 4.0 transmision

Why are people saying a 5 speed won't? I don't get it. the mazda trans with the integral bellhousing won't but the Toyo Koygo will with an adapter plate def will.

The question was whether or not a 5 speed will from a 4.0......

The 4.0 never came with the shitty Toyo Koygo....

The Mazda is the only 5 speed transmission to ever appear on the 4.0.

:D You can adapt all those 4 and 6 banger transmissions up to any V8 and all you'll end up with after a 5 minute moderate power application is a transmission case full of scrap metal:icon_confused:.:icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

if you want to destroy a tranny in a very expensive way, buy an adapter and hook a 4/6 cyl trans to a 5 liter. Just spend what you'd spend on an adapter and buy the proper trans for the job.

Yes but dont!!!!!

You will have to get a different housing for mounting, but your wasting your time. That transmission is only rated for 100hp. Unless you got a turd for 302 you just going to rip it apart over and over.

yes and no

yes it will bolt up with a adaptor housing, but your standard transmission for a 6 or 4cyl is only rated for 100hp. So you would be wasting your time unless you build the transmission stronger.

Where do you conjure up numbers like this?

Interesting... all of the engines behind the trans are rated at or greater than 100hp...

275 crank horsepower out of my 2.3 hasn't hurt the mazda M5OD yet. It's working out great for a turbo motor (lots of torque and horse power but not the input shaft snapping, tire spinning, off-idle torque of a V8) Even though ford used it behind the 5.0 (in its slightly larger M5OD-R2 form) I wouldn't put it behind one. But it would certainly last longer than one acceleration pull. It would probably be fine so long as you don't do any 4000 RPM clutch popping.

But that is all pointless anyways as there is no way to mount an M5OD-R1 on the back of any V8. Yes there is a way to bolt the earlier tk trannies to a 5.0 but that's just a bad idea.

It's not the HP rating that does it, it's the sudden application of torque combined with enough traction at the wheels that'll allow the engine to break stuff in the transmission. Even a 120-150 hp 302 has twice the torque of a 4 or 6 banger

What about the 5 speed automatic transmission. What will it bolt to . . . would it take a V8 if it was just in a daily driver - not raced.

How is that possible? My 4.0 motor has 210 horsepower from factory or close to that. So how is a 100hp transmission bolted up to that? And if you get the 5.0 that came out of an f150 or base 5.0 mustang it has 266 horsepower. 56 extra horsepower to that transmission will destroy it?
