Deep Fried Turkey!

this will be the third year i deep fry mine.used a mix peanut and canola last year didnt like it.
go pure peanut oil best flavor imo.
crank the heat up and get the oil to 400 and SLOWLY lower the bird in.(itll cool off pretty quick when you put it in).you can turn it down a little after a few min. then try to keep it around 300 to 350 degrees.cook for about 4.5 mins a pound and turn the gas off and wait about 6 more mins.
pull the bird out slowly to drain the oil.i usally use one of those big alum. cheap pans to put it in to take it inside.

make sure you have some heavy gloves and some help taking it out of the fryer and putting it into the pan.make SURE you get the stand that goes with the fryer set up to put the bird on ,it keeps it standing up in the middle of the pot.
i put em in head first.(or where it used to be.......lol)

well i did my first deep fried turkey on friday (divorced parents = two thanksgiving dinners) and it came out great. that will be the way i do thanksgiving from now on. it will probably be the way i do christmas too... and any other excuse i get to deep fry a bird. it was so crispy on the outside, i was afraid i burnt it. every time you tried to move it to put it on a plate it just popped and cracked because of how crispy it was. then, when i cut it open, it was just running juices. dripping everywhere, it was so moist. theres no better way to do it :icon_thumby:
