dangerranger1983 build

One problem with the radio.............way back my dad tried to put a bulb in it, make one work you could say. Well in the process he ended up breaking it and for 5 years now there has been no light from the raido time display, Im told that its not worth fixing. What kind it is is the digital one with the tape player. We got it from a J/Y for $25. That wht I installed and overhead clock that also displays the date too from a Ranger that I got way back. I havent seen another rangr in person with it this type of clock. I assume they were only put in trucks that had the analog knob radios.

Hopefully here in a biot, start on the cd player.

One cd player later and this is what you get......60watts of walmarts cheapests. But its better then what I had.

Got a auxiliary plug now I can plug in my mp3 player

Well did the first oil change since the SAS and all went well except a few things and Im glad I decided to do it today rather then hold off a few more days as the pics will tell why, give ya a hint, has to to with my suspension.

You can see where this is going already.

Loosen the bolt
oilchange2.jpg
[/IMG]

And it goes right for the long arm, good tghing it was the threads and it didnt make a mess on the ground.
oilchange3.jpg
[/IMG]

Like I said, good thing I did it now but not the exact reason though.
oilchange4.jpg
[/IMG]

Love my ratcheting wrenches.
oilchange5.jpg
[/IMG]

And you can see the oil filter lines up with the long arm too.
oilchange6.jpg
[/IMG]

Time for some help, couldnt get it off with my hands due to the long arm got in the way of my arms.
oilchange7.jpg
[/IMG]

Let the twisting begin.
oilchange8.jpg
[/IMG]

Got her loose enogh to get off by hand but what always happens after oil comes out from the top of the filter? Ya the wind blows it right toward your face, good thing I got out of the way.
oilchange10.jpg
[/IMG]

And yes this is what I use, dont want to hear about what filter Im using either.
oilchange9.jpg
[/IMG]

Note to self, dont sneeze when pouring the oil. Was holding the funnel and the oil jug at the time, sneezed and pulled the funnel out of the hole getting some of the oil on my exhuast manifold.
oilchange11.jpg
[/IMG]

Thats going smoke for awhile after it warms up.
oilchange12.jpg
[/IMG]

Started her up and man was my oil pressure better, and this was after letting it fully warm up too (yes i was pushing the gas pedal too, got it up to 80psi at 5000 rpm!!!!) Only running 5w-30, did have 10w-30 in it but looking to get better mileage.
oilchange13.jpg
[/IMG]

Dont know if you all can see it but there is smoke there!!!!
oilchange14.jpg
[/IMG]

Okay and found this problem after I was cleaning up my mess. Scared me knowing that I have been putting about a hundred miles on her a week and been driving it with this problem, dont know how long it was like this though.
bolt1.jpg
[/IMG]

So after running to the store real fast, got a new bolt put in and the hot exhuast slowed me down a bit but all is fixed now.
bolt2.jpg
[/IMG]

Like nothing happened (wheres the spray paint at?)
bolt3.jpg
[/IMG]

What should have teaken 15min took 45min, nothing new.

i want those long arms...... lol
wanna come do my d30 swap? i gotta get started on that.. not looking to forward to the work. but shall love the outcome!

I had alot of my bolts come loose on me. I replaced them all with nylon locking nuts, but I still check them every few weeks.

Swap out the motor for a 4.0 and the drain bolt is on the bottom. Not the side... Would fix your problem.. Just saying! Lol

My dad has never had a problem with Fram filters on all his vehicles and I put that same trust on mine.

As for nylon lock nuts, I cant find any that are grade 8 meaning that it would create a very weak point, I would hate to have a nut fail when I need it the most (that sounded wrong). With how long the bolts are, I can just double nut the bolt and lock then together that way (there it is again).

As for a 4.0 swap, thats on my todo list still. Just need to buy the other ranger my coworker has for cheap (it runs but tranny is out). But due to the current weather, not really motivated to do that atm.

I have always used Fram, and never had a problem, the only time I didn't use use a Fram, was when I was driving truck across the USA, the trucking company always use the engine brand filters.

GO Fram.

I ran nord-lock washer's on all my hardware. seemed to work great until i took it apart then they never seemed to work the same again. kinda a one time shot with them. i think once the two side's are split apart they dont grab as well

okay the 4.0 swap isnt happening, guy sold the truck to a JY for $250 but now that gives me the excuse to put the headers I got on her.

Now for some help, what is the best way to get 27 year old head bolts off. I know sounds risky but might as well go for it, did it once to my dads old truck when it had an exhaust gasket that was shot, but the engine was out of it at the time. I think I will keep my 2.8, shes been very good to me plus Im not motivated to do an engine swap right now, just wanna "finish it up" and have fun with it.

One thing that I still have to do is get the steering stablizer shot hooked up, need to look at a few Jeeps and see how they are hooked up (remember, my mounts were cut off from the previuos owner of the axle). Would hooking a sway bar up be worth it, and what ewould it do suspesion wise when it comes to bumps (not really worried about the 4 inches of body roll I get taking a fast turn which makes my tires rub the fenders) and that leads me to having to trim my finders.

Wow everything is building up, end of ranting.
