Looks like a 4.0 would do ya just fine... Is it just me or are those springs a little stiff? ..... Hurry up and break those bad boys in and get some flex shots :D:icon_thumby:

x2 on getting that thing in one color...

Lookin good!

i am running a ruff stuff trac bar mount that is welded to the frame and havent had an issue with it even after jumpin the truck at 55 mph hittin sand roller's

My shocks only have 4 inches of up travel meaning that I need to mod the shock towers this spring so that it is able to move up more and not max out. Basicly cut the top off and raise it up like 4 more inches? so that it can flex more. Has more then enough down travel. Heck Im rubbing finders now as it is (yes finder trimming is on my todo list) as soon ass it warms up out along with a few other things. The springs are used so they are already broke in for me.

One thing that I posted in the "Other engin conversion" section was hooking a 4.0 to the 2.8 tranny (TK4). Yes I have an internal slave but my concern is the input shaft reading the lengths and seeing some were shorter and some were longer and seeing the shorter goes into the flywheel bearing and some go into the crankshaft (lot more is in the thread). I know its not recommended to us an earlier tranny on a 4.0 but if I can get away with it for awhile then thats what I will do, or if I find an M50D in that time then use that. I plan on putting new gaskets on the engine and yes painting it yellow. I just need to go take a look at the truck that has it and confirm everything thn call up a few buddies to help me tow it home, yank it out, and tow it off to a JY. Ya I know, easier said then done.

Hope fully my tax check comes in soon and the weather starts to get nicer so all this can be done. Maybe instal my cd player I got for free soon, see if it works, told it does.

Since my track bar pics were the last post on page 25, thats where they are for anybody that jumps right to this page and wanted to see it.

Okay got my gas mileage figured up and it didnt change with the new tires being on my truck, still geting 9-10 mpg's, not that Im worrying about it. Hopefully a 4.0 swap, it will be better. Still trying to figure out how my gas mileage stayed the same though, and that does include the 10% speedometer error too.

Got a brand new cd player, the one that was given to me didnt work (expected that) and wont be able to instal it until next week when I have a day off work. Just need to get an amp and then hook it to my sub (that may happen later).

Thanks for the pics. I'm thinking my frame is bent still I have a huge gap with a flat plate up against the frame. Does the mount flex much with only 2 bolts? Well it must cuz you welded the bottom part to the frame

When it wasnt welded it flexed alot, the body would move side to side a bit when you turned the wheel before it stopped flexing allowed the wheels to turn. But since I welded the bottom part to the frame, it barely flexes at all. I still need to change the TRE on the draglink to a ranger one (hope im not to late) and change the TRE on the rest of the linkage. I will say I have beat on truck alot this winter between going over iced over snow chunks and hitting huge snow piles to test it out and all has held up nicely.

Now Im thinking about the upcomming body work and what custom things I can put on it from the earlier full size trucks, such as the older ranger f-150's, may try to find a set of those emblems in the J/Y, I know I have seen a few of them. Also going to put marker lights on my roof too, and a ton more things are on my todo list.

you gotta get the f-o-r-d across the hood. i had the letters to put on my 97 but it wasnt going to look roight so i put them on the tailgate in place of ther stock oval

The FORD does look good on first gens I had the letters for my b2 but I never put them on. I wanted to weld my trackbar racket to the frame but my buddy is iffy since the frames are heat treated

it's said "don't do it" but many do... just weld properly and you should be fine.

What I did was weld a little bit, let it cool inspect it and do that few times and so far all has been fine.

I may look online for the f-150 rangr emblms instead of a J/y. Not so sure about putting the letters across my hood, but I have an open mind on what to do and open to ideas.

I was talking to my dad abut this swap for my ranger since it is currently off the road for engine issues. I am 85% sure I will do it. Beside picking up a 373 ring/pinion to match my rear, the only thing standing in the way is what to do for radius arms. Possible to run stock jeep arms and run to my frame? I want to go only a few inches higher, maybe for 32's.

has anyone done the D30 using the factory jeep arm's? from everything ive seen everyone end's up runnin a long arm setup due to ease of install and tuning. Definately could be done tho.

You have to have a mininum of 4 inches of lift to do this swap. I personally dont recommend running the factory jeep arms, its just much simpler to have two mounting points then four, not to mention that factory jeep arms arent adjustable and if you dont get the axle lined up perfectly the first time, theres no adjusting it unless you have adjustable arms. Above all I would just do long arms, just makes it simpler in the end.

As for gears, I should go with 4.10s (thats what the tire/gear calculator says) but since a 4.0 swap is more or less in the future, no real need to. A 2.9 only has 10hp then a 2.8 so the need for better gearing may be needed. Only thing with mine is high end speed,. has a hard time going up a long hill and trying to kep it doing 50mph, and thats in 3rd gear and foot to the floor!!!!

Hopefully I will be putting my CD player in tomorrow and get rid of my "factory" radio.

can you show a pictures of your factory radio ??

I tore up the one I was trying to save out of the explorer to put in my Ranger when I do the dash swap.

IF the radio works good, I might try to buy it off you come the 3rd of next month, but depends on what type of Factory one you have.

Thank you

Robert
