dangerranger1983 build

Well seeing as yours is a 97 you have a TTB D35 under your truck which is much stronger then the D30 so in a way, your downgrading. As for the steering box, from 83-97 they are the same.

Now if you are wanting a live at all times axle, just put some Jeep warn hubs on your front and keep them locked. Sure this may killl off your gas mileage a little, but if what you want is a live at all times axle then thats the cheapest and easiest way to go.

As far as doing this kind of swap, its not something you do over night. I planned mine out for almost a year before even laying a finger on my truck. I have a list somewhere on here Ill find it and post it just to show what I have done so far and what it has costed.

Okay found my list among the lists of may other people why have done SAS's.

this is true... cool. i'd just set up that d35 right. i forgot the 97 was still ttb.
just get that ttb set up with extended radius arms, good hubs, gears, jeep coils, locker, so on..

I wouldn't want a live axle anyways. Just wears things faster and kills your miliage just go jeep Hubs maybe bigger u joints, b4 I got rid of my range I was looking into the rear jeep l/s Dana 35 carrier to put in the front of mine.

WOW i thought they went to A-arm or ifs in 96 or something like that. look's like I failed ranger history

I think the Rangers might have, I know the Rangers and Explorers are following two different history's. Just look how the Bodies and engines didn't follow the changes at the same time.

everyone talking about steering setups for the D30... check this out. Looks interesting and not to badly priced. Now that's high steer.

ya.. it would be down grading but atleast it would be a live axle instead of the gay wish bone suspension.. well i was thinking about a wangoneer axle would be perfect i think there actually a 35 or 40 or something but i heard that would be a good one.. im not really sure just trying to see all my options.

I belive you would need an post 80 waggy axle(drivers side diff). and try to find one that doesnt have the vacume disconnect. you can identify the vacume disconnect by the hose that goes directly into the diff cover. as far as the waggy axle, there Low Pinion 44's set up for leaf sprung. the driverside spring perch is built into the center housing. woulnt work for me due to that fact. i still have it in the garage if you need any measurment's off it. prolly wanna find a set as they are odd width and 6 lug. or run spacer's on the front and run a cheby 10 or 12 bolt.
should be slinging it under a bronco 2 in the near future. best bet for a 44 would be a 76 or 79 f-150 axle as they were all HP you could even use the factory style for arm's if you wanted too. i think a different b-bushing is needed in that case (not sure as i dont wanna go that way)

it's considered a narrow 9'' will be the same track width as your current axle. try to find one with 31 spline shaft's over the 28 spline shaft's you can tell the differnece by looking at the end of the shaft. the 31 will have two dimple's in the wheel center the 28 will have a d shaped notch.

all the info you need is out there try and do some diggin and you'll learn alot more than just the question's you have.
check out this page there is alot of good axle info on here. and it's easy reading.

In 98 thats when the Ranger went to IFS. How I know this, my dad owns one of that year. I have also seen a SAS done to a 98 ranger plus have read alot about the rangers too.

As for waggy axle, read somewhere you want one from 80-82, those dont have the axle disonnect but could be wrong.

If you want to do a SAS that is still upgrading but not hard to do and want to keep your current width, do an EB D44. Ya its a low pinion but still good enough and an upgrade I wanna say. Only thing that will change is the bolt pattern, from 4.5x5 to 5x5.

As for the high steer, thats no lie. But the last thing I want to do is replace knuckles. Ill be happy to get my steering stablizer hooked up so day. Just waiting for warm weather so I can continue work on her.

Nice work to the truck....Cool to see you kept the oem coil buckets in your setup. I been thinking bout it off and on since I got another 1st gen but want to avoid welding.
