Next thing to buy, water pump, AA oil adaptor. Still on the look out for the other parts listed in my WTB thread.

Saw this on the blazers, at least to pre 95 ones, they have a remote oil filter mount and wonder if they will work for a 302 or if the filters arent big enough (Im not sure what size they use). I will need to look more into that and also getting another starter too.

Water pump time.

Rebuilt one with LLT warrenty.

Painted...dont think this voids the warrenty.

And one the engine.

Since progress will be slowing on the engine due to all the rest of the stuff need is the most expensive and also saving up for the ranger meet coming up too.

So I decided to take the top of the trans off and this is what I found...

These all look to be in good condition.

Had no fluid in it due to it leaking out of the PTO cover since the gasket went on it and/or the drian plug backed out.

Plans are to separate the trans from the transfercase when doing the instal but wanted to take the top off to see everything in it before seperating them. Now I have to figure out how to clean up the inside of this.

That's a lot of surface rust.

She did sit in a barn for awhile and out of the weather too. Everything does turn free and smooth though so that is a good sign that everything will be fine.

Alot of what you are seeing is water/oil fluid on the surface of the gears but it wipes right off.

Got the trans cleaned out most of the way.

And also got the trans seperated from the transfercase.

And yet I never stop going...

PTO cover off and cleaned out. Didnt know about the magnet that was in them. Didnt have much metal on it but had a layer that covered it along with all the nasty sh!t that was in the trans too, but thats now clean too.

Got the PTO cover back on took the picture and forgot to put the tag back on it so did that right after I took the picture. From what the tag says the trans was made June 7th, 1984 and is, not that I already didnt know, an np435.

And got the gasket mainly cleaned off where the transfercase meets the trans. I will say these have a huge output shaft on them, dont see me snapping one anytime soon.

And will also have to find that gasket too, my trans gasket kit didnt come with one.

Did you say why you were going with the NP208? I cant remember/bother to look that far back :D

Anyways it's too bad you arent closer. I have a BW1356M out of my old F250 with the driveshafts you could have for $50.

Simple, it came with the transmission plus I wanted a trans with a hydrolic clutch and I found one with it. So happens as a bonus, its an np435.

Now I could have gotten a 5 speed with the BW1356 for the same price off a 90's f250 but the one I got was already pulled and I didnt want a 4wd shift that I had to push down to get into 4lo. Also the 4wd shifter was in a weird spot in the floor plus didnt want to notch my frame either to fit the BW1356.

Now nothing says that I cant put a np205 later down the road. But right now just want to get the swap done then go from there.

As for driveshafts, going to get them from a fullsize f150 or so and shorten them.

I dunno if it's just me, but I HATE slip yokes...lol They can become a nightmare when flexing out.

It can be gotten rid of desired. My current front driveshaft is a slip yoke and have no probelms yet.

First thing is getting it up and going then do more stuff from there if needed.

Is there anything I can say to make this better? Last week was fine, 3 days ago was fine. On the way to go get the fiancee from work and was pulling into the parking lot, was hard to shift into second gear, thought nothing of it so add some fuild to the slave pumped the pedal all was fine until I had to go shift again for a stop light and it wouldnt go into gear without alot of force. So we are half way across town and I had to baby it home. Every stop light that I did hit started in second to avoid shifting and baby her home in second plus when I did have to stop and had the clutch pedal to the floor, it still wanted to creep forward.

The two bottom bolts have somehow backed out again and that is with red loctite on them and everything was cleaned too, top two are still in and I didnt have a problem last time with them. I did notice that the trans was doing a torque/twist motion during gears being shifted, just like it was doing lastime. But this time the clutch wont release as compaired to last time it was slipping and didnt take much to release it.

Now the debat begins....pull the trans enough to tighten them back up or cut an access hole where each bolt is to get a socket and wrench up in there to tighten them up just till I can get the 302 swap done.

I would guess, do the easiest to fix it, if cutting two holes will do it, then do that, but I would check the holes where the bolts go in and see if they might be partly stripped out.

Robert

Thats what I am starting to fer that they might be stripped out but when I took them off last time I checked for that and there was no signs of any stripping of threads plus when I torqued them down last time, it took it.

Well guess it is time to go get the grinder and the cut off wheel and do some surgery. Pics of it all happening will be posted. Not looking forward to doing this either. I need to get this 302 swap done soon, this is costing me time and money that could have gone twords it too.
