Dana 50 sterling 10.25 swap

Ahh ok. I wonder how different d44 and d50 spindles are, I work in a machine shop so modify things if they're close

the d50/60 spindle has a much larger spigot than the d44,i don't think you could open the hole in the 44 knuckle out enough for the bigger u-joint to fit through.there is an 8-lug d44,but it uses the same bigger arms as the d50.

the arm mods on the 44 to fit the 50 knuckles are not that hard, basically the same as a cut-and-turn.even if you just fit everything up and get a professional to weld it up,you should be ok.

the upper balljoint is the same-just the lower needs to be grafted from the 50 arm onto the 44,as well as openning the 'c' out a bit for u-joint clearance.

Oh you only changed the lower balljoint socket? I thought you transferred the whole Dana 50 C and outer beam onto the Dana44 beam. That doesn't seem too hard then

Next question for you gwaii, did you lengthen the beams to stay full width? I'm thinking I could just add an inch to each beam so I don't have to make new pivot brackets, but would that extra inch mean I need longer axle shafts?

i left the 44 arms stock length, but built custom pivot brackets on mine.i think it ended up a couple inches narrower than a fullsize, but stock shafts were used.

Ok thats sense. My buddy is helping me with the fab work, he asked why you only used the lower bj from the 50, and not the whole c

because the upper is the same.the 50 balljoint slips right into the 44 arm,so why change that part for another that's the same.

and i didn't just cut the whole end off the 50 arm because it's quite a bit different in shape, with it being leaf spring instead of coil.by just changing the lower balljoint mount i still retained the profile on the arm for radius arms and spring mounts to be installed as original.
