daily doubler build

These sliders of yours are gonna be sweet.

How many miles did you get out of that heim?

lookin' good Bray:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

I am gonna need to hit the trails as soon as I get the sliders done......

i REALLY need to invest in a setup like that. looks like it makes life sooo much easier.

It makes it so you can bend tube. It's about as primitive as you can get for bending tube CORRECTLY though. I get a serious workout with the mechanical ratchet setup.

oh and BTW

I hope you make it to U.A. and according to what i real a couple issues ago. you should do allright they are mentioned they are allways lookin for trucks that stand out in a crowd and catch eyes. i think with your level of build, trucks color and bright wheels i hope it does o.k.

Thanks man. I'm pretty excited to get 'em done. I swapped in the solid axle (and hence the heim) at 155k on the clock. I just replaced it and I'm at 210,800. Sooo, just under 56k miles? You guys can see from the pics what kind of treatment it gets. Lots of road miles and fairly harsh off road conditions. It was sloppy enough that if I shook the frontend by the stinger, I could hear it knock. The frontend never started to wander or anything.

My brother made mention of running to the Badlands the weekend of April 28 for the next TREC race. I'd like to get my sliders done and run over there for a shakedown with the new gear. Probably wouldn't get there till early afternoon on Sat, but I would camp and wheel Sunday as well.

being able to replicate bend after bend while not having to take it off several times to check your angle seems nice. as for the setup being able to bend tube would be well worth it. the only thing i have is a HF pipe bender i got back in highshcool. it has got its fair share of use. regardless what everyone has said negative about sch.ed pipe

Definitely man. I built my old sliders and my 'tube' doors with the HF kinker. You can make some decent stuff with it if you take your time and pay attention to your bend plane.

Slowly but surely.

those are looking sweet man!

Are you running 4.56 ratios in your axles? If you are how do you like the road and trail manners with that ratio and 37s?

I was running 4.56 on the highway and it was like dragging a dead body around everywhere. Truck had no take off. Offroad it was no problem thanks to the doubler. Plus my mileage dropped pretty significantly when I went to 37s.

Bray, you have the same luck with yours?

I picked up a couple MPG when I swapped in the 4.0, then I lost those MPG when I put the 37's on. So I'm back to the mileage I was getting with the 3.0 and 35's which is around 18mpg.

I wasn't too dissappointed with the power loss. Gets around fine on the road. I'm used to it though, the truck has always been a turd.

Single low 2nd gear (hubs unlocked) will still spin the 37's in the dirt, but it doesn't rip the tires off like it did on the 35's.

If I go to a larger tire I'll definitely regear. Other than that, I can probably live with the 4.56. 5.13 would be recommended for someone going straight to 37's.

I weighed my truck the other day too. Full toolbox, full doors on, and me in the driver's seat I weighed in right around 4500lbs, just FYI.

edit: I should add that I'm running the 3.0 m5od trans internals in my 4.0 m5od trans housing. That gives me a lower 1st-3rd gear than the other 5 speed 4.0's on the street.

The KM2 are soft compound tread. I can't get mine to spin in dry pavement. The junk mud kings I could spin them easily.

Heck, my truck only weighs 4100# with a full tank and toolbox.

I can live with 4500. My cab is full of sound deadening material too. I could probably lose 100lbs just removing all of that.

5.38's and 42's bitch's.....

On a side note, your not too far off my weight there Bray. Loaded with gear I was 4800lbs (no doubler) with the same axles and wheel/tire setup.
