daily doubler build

I know man! I'm trying to see the glass as half full. My buddy has a 94 explorer with a 4.0L that he said I can have if I come get it, so that's super awesome. It's got an auto behind it, so I need to source an m5od. Other than that I should be set - having the engine and the doner vehicle it came from.

I'm driving my dad's jeep now, which kills me lol. We'll see how long it takes to get the engine swap done. It couldn't have happened at a worse time. I need to pay 2600 bucks for tuition by Oct 1st (this will kill my savings lol), and being in my senior year of my ME degree, I'm as busy as I've EVER been in my life.

We'll see how it goes. All I know is I'm looking forward to finally having a decent amount of power. :D

I'm sure you realize you have OBD II, and the donor is OBD I...You will need 95 or newer donor...I thought you had the 4.0L already :dunno: :icon_confused:

Wait wait wait, so you're telling me that lil red was on a trailer? :thefinger:

haha I know man. It kills me to see it on a trailer. I made 2 stops on the way to the shop and had 3 people ask me where I was headed to go wheelin. I must say, it looks pretty good on a trailer :thefinger:

SVT - It't got a 3.0L currently, it's a turd unless its over 3k rpm. Well, its a turd 100% of the time now that its got 0 oil pressure. :D

What problems will I run into swapping an ODB engine for an ODBII engine? I plan to swap all the electronics, I figured I'd just turn my ODBII Ranger into and ODBI ranger :D

For the record I've been drinkin a bit tonight so if my replies/questions are retarded that's why :D

If your interested I have a bare 4.0 M5OD tranny case that would be all you need to swap your tranny guts into to make it work behind the 4.0. you would get to keep your lower 3.0L gearing too. PM me if your intersted.

I'll send you a PM tomorrow when I'm thinking straight. I've been contemplating that as well - swapping my 3.0 tranny internals into the 4.0 tranny housing. Is it worth it? IDK yet.

huh i was under the assumption it was a 4.0 also, i recomend some headers for the 4.0 when you swap i didnt think there would be much difference but i was pretty suprised

good luck, keep us updated!

Ya man I was thinkin a cam and headers since I'll have the engine pulled. We'll see.

You will run into a lot of wiring issues as the firewall harnesses changed drastically from 94 to 95. IIRC ( and someone chime in if I am incorrect), the 94 harness does not have a bulkhead connector for the motor (the black 42 pin the OBD II's have), there are several small connectors. My suggestion is to run the donor motor you have, and grab the complete intake (upper and lower) and harness from an OBD II from a junkyard, it will make the swap a whole lot easier. I just done my 5.0L swap, and if you could have caught me a week ago, I would have had everything you would have needed, but it went to the scrapyard....If you want, I can grab you what you need from one of my local junkyards....if your interested or don't have a junkyard near you that has what you need, I'd be happy to help you out:icon_thumby:

yea the 94 harness does have a bulkhead connector right under the booster....but they deffinantly changed some things from 94-95 and my computer is down in the driverside fender and the 95's are up in the cowl correct?

You are correct, Jon. Here you can see the computer just above the throttle body, next to the heater box...

I assume you're out for the October 2 weekend? I'm going to call and cancel my reservation, we've got something else going on now.

Yep, I'll be out for a while. I hope to get my truck stripped down to just the engine this weekend, as well as get Wirsch's Exploder towed down to the shop.

I need to start working through the schematics to make this all work too. My brain already hurts.

What day are you coming out to get the sploder? I don't have anyting going on Saturday-day, so maybe I'll come out.

I texted Wirsch to see if I could come get it Sunday morning. Haven't got a response yet.

I'm gonna try and get my truck stripped down to just the engine on Saturday.
