daily doubler build

We need to make it a tradition that at least one member of TRS goes on the UA every year!

I'd love to see more and more RBV's out on those major deal trail rides like that. There are A LOT of worthy RBV's.

I actually have a Jeep guy considering a ranger for his next rig now, b/c of yours...

Brayd and his little truck was the fuel I needed to get back to work on my little Ranger again. I met him up at Badlands a couple years back and thought hell yeah thats how my 87' should be only with a few creative twists.

Thanks man. I meet a lot of people there; probably because I spend a decent amount of time there.

I thought my u-joints were chirping again, so I bought some AlloyUSA greaseable joints. They seem pretty good, like a 760x with greaseable caps. Solid cross and priced right at 40 bucks a piece:

I tore my frontend apart and found it was actually dried up spindle bearings so I didn't replace my joints. Those babies will go in the next time I have the axle torn down though.

Then I drove to the Badlands for some wheelin/camping.

It was a fun weekend. Weather was perfect both for wheelin and campin.

I went down and did some more beach running on Monday after work. That was a blast as well.

Then I go to leave work today and walk out to this. This guy parked next to me today and it's the EXACT setup my truck was before I started building it. All the way down to the mud flaps and the pin stripe down the side. It was pretty cool to see a "before and after" in real life.

Bray, the beach running you keep posting up...is that something some out of towners could find to go do as well? Our club is planning another trip to the Badlands as soon as my truggy is done and I would love to check that spot out since we always spend 3 days at the park.

It's definitely not something to travel for. I run into a few quads every once in a while, but as far as I know I'm the only truck that's been on it. It's just my local get away spot. The Illinois River is literally right across the street from our shop, so some days I'll run over there, drive across a dam, and take a few passes on the beach. There's probably 2-3 miles that you can drive if the water is low enough. We've had a super dry year so I've been able to get over there all summer luckily.

Man, I haven't updated this in a while. I camped on the river on the last day of Summer. That was most excellent. I spent the whole night driving up and down the beach.

The second Ultimate Adventure issue of Petersen's is on the stands this month:

Then I did some mild wheeling today. I was at a buddy's place and we just decided to run some quad trails close by. Full size doors on and still at street pressure. We ended up finding some nasty stuff and actually broke a lockout. This is the sliding cog that locks the hub to the axle.

It looks like the lockout partially disengaged and sheared the teeth off. I'm not sure if that spring that pushes on the sliding cog got offset and never fully engaged it when I locked it in, or if the lockout somehow partially disengaged while we were wheelin or what, but either way I fixed it in a parking lot so it's all good.

I've rusted through the 3rd muffler on this thing, so it'll get a fresh one this coming Saturday, then I'm hoping to start on my Winter refresher. It needs new front axle seals and a fresh clutch/flywheel. I'd like to get that done in the next few weeks.

Gonna knock out those dents too?

Oh yeah, I did that a long time ago. The passenger side fender came out really well. Both my driver and passenger side are almost identical. 'Bodywork' is an ongoing process haha.
